Mary Alice, I think you are on the right track. The man who is listed in the land records and the Oath of Allegiance List seems to be the son of Theodore Malotte and his wife Catherine. This Joseph had a wife, Sarah? and he seems to have been b. around 1734 according to the land records I quoted in the beginning of this query. That would bring him closer in age to Thomas South who may have been b. in 1713. The Joseph Malotte who married Mary Catherine South (Caty) in 1789 is probably the son of Peter and nephew of the earlier Joseph. This later Joseph was b. around 1756 if the ancestry entries are correct-- they are probably close anyway. After Caty died, he married again and had more children. He died in Missouri. This younger Joseph is probably also the one who gave the bond for Satta/Sarah South's marriage to Samuel Stone. That occurred 10 years after Joseph married her sister, Caty. I do have a copy of that bond and it is listed in some, but not all marriages in Madison County.
