There are some other sites also along with Footnotes. Heritage Quest, Godfrey Memorial Library, Kinder Kinnections and World Vital Records are available on the www.Familyserch.org site for FREE now. I am on the executive board of our local Family History Center and I have not heard that it was suppose to be at the FHC only. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Check with your local libraries too ... I can access Heritage Quest from home with my library card bar code. All I have to do is go to my library's home page and find the link for databases. What you can access from home should be listed clearly. If you don't have a library card I've noticed quite a few allow you to get an ecard by providing a street address that is in that libraries "area." I have a paid subscription to footnote.com and I love it! Kat
It appears that my ancestor, James Johnson, was among many others that moved from Madison Co. Ky. in very early 1800's to Howard Co. Mo. Does anyone know what caused this group to move there together? ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
Mary Alice, There are some other sites also along with Footnotes. Heritage Quest, Godfrey Memorial Library, Kinder Kinnections and World Vital Records are available on the www.Familyserch.org site for FREE now. I am on the executive board of our local Family History Center and I have not heard that it was suppose to be at the FHC only. They have started digitizing and indexing all 2.4 million rolls of microfilm they have in their vault in the mountain behind Salt Lake and they will be gradually putting them on this site, Again All FREE. The project they feel will take 3 to 5 years. What a boon that will be to us genealogists. Eleanor Homewood ----- Original Message ----- From: "M. A. If you visit the LDS page www.familysearch.org then click on the tab, "News", you will find a reference to the "for pay" site "Footnotes" (about $50. per year) with all the research material. Since I was surprised to see that type of info there, I mailed an inquiry to see if it would be available for free use in family history centers; the reply was that it would be available free in most Centers, very soon. I googled for it with mixed results. Mary Alice ________________________________________ PeoplePC Online A better way to Internet http://www.peoplepc.com

Those of you who get Dick Eastman's daily newsletter know that he gives us genealogists some good tips. Also, I find the Ancestry.com's FREE weekly newsletter is full of helpful hints. The daily one, in years past, was excellent, and probably can be found in the Archives--somewhere!!! Today, Dick Eastman is touting this URL. He searched for a genealogy for the Eastman family and was pleased with what information he received--not the whole book but some good leads. <_http://books.google.com_ (http://books.google.com) > Another website which Dick Eastman likes is <_www.Footnote.com_ (http://www.Footnote.com) > At one of his, Eastman's, later urgings, I decided to take a look at Footnote. There are a good many NARA [National Archives] documents here, and I found some Civil War soldier's records. How complete they are I cannot say--as I have already done my Confederates [and one Union fellow]--the old fashioned way--by sending in a required form with the appropriate amount of money, all with the help of the US postal service years ago!!! Here is a recent announcement of Eastman's. There is skepticism on the part of some subscribers, which is OK. <_http://demo.openlibrary.org/about_ (http://demo.openlibrary.org/about) > Off to read some microfilm. <Mary Alice; Is the CREWS family one you search? I mistakenly attached a crews family into the Henry Co. Mo. LEE line. It is floating around in those searching LEE family of Madison Co. Ky. It is correct for the Crews family just does not belong to the LEE line. This was clarified in a dedication for a Revolutionary War Veteran dedication. Hello, My husband's Arathusa BARNES was born in 1812 or 1813 in Madison County. Her parents are said to be James Talton BARNES and Sarah "Sally" DENHAM (b 1794, Madison Co, KY). I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who knows anything about this family. By the way, Arathusa married Squire HOLMAN. They are both buried at Old Chariton Cemetery in Macon County, Missouri. I will be coming to Madison Co., KY in October to research my Simmons / Harrington/ Goodman ancestors. I am especially interested in researching the court records from the early 1790s through late 1800s. Years ago I did review the FHL film index to court records but still have no clue as to where to find the records. I understand that some of these records are in Frankfort, KY. Any help as to where to start or suggestion on looking at these records would be most appreciated. Also are there other indexes. Thanks again. Laura
Thanks for sending a transcript of the Richard Oldham of Estill Co., KY. He is believed to be an uncle of my Richard *Ready-Money* Oldham of Madison Co., KY, who also received a pension; his widow received a pension [her name was Patsy Oldham nee Reid]; and there was a bounty land warrant. But I have to write to NARA to get the separate info re the BLWarrarnt. I was told, and I think he was mistaken, by an official at our southern California branch of NARA that the BLWs were on the same film. So, I have ordered the film, but finding the time to get the FHC to read it is another problem. So, we Oldham descendants of Richard R/M Oldham always use the nicknames of these two contemporary Richards to distinguish them. One we call Richard *Estill* Oldham, and the other as stated in the first line - R/M for Ready Money!!!! (Of course, the official records do not call him that, but it seems he was tagged this way in Miller's History and Genealogies ---- history [some of it garbled about the Oldhams] of some families of Madison Co., KY. In the published Garrard County (Kentucky) Cemetery Records 1792-1796 by Bill and Kathy Vockery is a listing for the Harris Cemetery. The cemetery was surveyed early by Anne Burnside Brown and by the Vockerys in 1997. Harris, Tyree Rhodes, No Stone in 1997 - 15 Mar 1765 - 1841 Harris, Sophy Herd 1st wife of Tyree, NS in 97 - 1773 - No Date Harris, Rachel Brown 2nd wife of Tyree, NS in 97 - 1780 - ND Harris, Arabia J. 13 Oct. 1815 - 24 Jul. 1860 Harris, Elijah L. 17 Aug. 1800 - 19 Oct. 1853 Harris, Ellen T. 20 Mar. 1815 - 14 Jan. 1875 McMillan, Anna NS in 97 - 4 Jul. 1788 - 8 Jun. 1868 (No husband buried here or not evident.) There are other Harrises buried in the cemetery, but my attention is on the above Anna McMillan. Although the Garrard Co. publish marriage records give Samuel McMullin marrying Anny Harris, bond on 3 Jun. 1912 by Tyree Harris and a return date of 5 Jun. 1812, married by Joseph R. Pond-Bapt., I feel that McMillan is probably correct. Garrard Co., KY Census 1850 shows Samuel McMillin age 61 farmer born VA and Ann age 62 born NC. In 1860 Anny McMillan is living alone and the census does not list her age. Hope this is of some help in further proving.
