To: Joe and Fern: Joe, I believe that Buford is a common given name. It may well have derived from the Buford surname which is quite well spread over this country. As to Charles Buford "Bufe" Pearson, I was aquainted with him and actually interviewed him in our home in the early 1981 when he was 81 years of age. Contact me at g2door@mindspring.com Tell me more about what you know about the Pearsons. I only know that Green Pearson and Margaret Ann Murphy were Bufe's parents. The Murphy side I am familiar with. Gerald Tudor _____________________________________________ And, hello Fern. Hello Gerald, We only know that Charles Fanny White,I know that Green Pearson died in Jackson County Ky,but only have a cemetery listing for him,he died I belive in 1921 but I have been unable to find a death certificate for him. I also have another Green Pearson in my Pearson line,he was born in Estill County Ky. I am working on his brothers and sisters one of which my wife is a direct descendant of.. I will continue to look for information on the family,I saw some where that Charles Buford Pearson divorced his wife Fanny White, and I have information on their son John Pearson,I have his death and burial and in the process of contacting his decendants. Can you add anything to these families? The only Nelly I see is know as Herndon. Gay Nix I have not researched the Thomas and Nelly Herndon Caperton line. GT <g2door@mindspring.com> wrote: Gay, I do not have the book, but do have the following found on the Genweb surname Caperton. I do not know where the name Nellie Norwood comes from? Nellie Hendron/Hendren is the subject. Gerald Tudor Posting by Terry Carpenter on Caperton or Carpenter 26 Apr. 2000 to Genweb surname Caperton) Does anyone know for certain if the Thomas who married on 3 Jun 1813 in Madison Co. KY to Nelly Hendren was surnamed "Caperton" or "Carpenter"? Both names have been reported in published abstracts of the marriages, and this is a key piece of information for tracing that line. Any help with the Capertons or Carpenters of Madison Co. KY would be much appreciated, and I will be glad to share data. Thank you, Terry _________________________________________________________________________________ Reply by Jadean Day on 10 May 2001 Terry, In Bernard M Caperton's book "The Caperton Family" published in 1973, marriage of Thomas Caperton (b.1792) to Nelly Hendron on 8/3/1813 is found in the records of Madison County, KY. Thomas is thought to be the oldest sone on James and Sarah (Sallie) Wells Caperton. The following is information obtained from "The Caperton Family": The 1810 Census shows James was still living with his wife and seven children in Madison County, KY. In May 1811, James Caperton sold his land on Otter Creek to Davis Hardin and moved to Tennessee. James settled on Enon Creek, a branch of Duck River, near the border of what is now Williamson and Maury Counties. His home was called Spring Hill from which the Town of Spring Hill, TN took its name. James died in 1847. Nothing is known of the children of Thomas Caperton and Nellie Hendron except that a Thomas H. Caperton appears on the tax lists of Williamson County, TN in 1840 along with James, Samuel, John and Calloway Caperton. Thomas H. Caperton married Nancy Jones on 11/17/1838 in Williamson County, TN. He died in Febuary 1842. Hope this helps your search. _____________________________________________________________________ (Terry Carpenter, a correspondant on our mutual Carpenter kinship had asked me to find the original record of the marriage for Carpenter and Hendren/Hendron, since I live in Madison Co., KY. Copies of the original bond was sent to Terry and my follow-up to Jadean Day is below - Gerald Tudor) _______________________________________________________________________ Gerald Tudor 16 Dec. 2003 Jadean, I am not sure if Terry or anyone has contacted you regarding a Thomas Caperton's marriage to a Nellie Hendren. Some time ago apparently the record was misread and it has led people in many different directions regarding this alleged marriage. The fact is that Nellie Hendren, dau. of Nimrod Hendren, actually married Thomas Carpenter, son of Edward and Sarah (possibly Bepper or Pepper) Carpenter, bond date 1 Jun. 1813 Madison Co., KY, Return date 3 Jun. 1813, the same date given for her marriage to Thomas Caperton (but Caperton is not mentioned). Consent for this marriage was given by Nimrod Hendren, father of the bride, and by Charles Murphy, step-father of the groom. Charles Murphy had married in 1795, Sarah, the widow of Edward Carpenter and mother of Thomas Carpenter. The original records are precise about Carpenter being the husband of Nellie Hendren. By the 1920 Census of Madison Co., KY Thomas Carpenter has 2 males under 10, he age 26-45; 1 female under 10, and his wife, age 16-26. It is believed that Thomas and Nellie actually removed to MO before the 1830 census, but no absolute proof. They just are not in Madison Co. for the 1830 census. ----- Original Message ----- From: "LYNDON NIX" To: Sent: Sunday, November 25, 2007 8:46 AM Subject: Re: [MADKY] Green woods 1803 Madison county KY > Gearld, > Do you know what page that can be found on? > I see some Norwood's but can't find where he states Thomas md a Nellie > Norwood? > Gay Nix > > GT wrote: > With the mention of Bernard Caperton's book, I am aware of one error > involving a marriage of a Thomas Caperton to a Nellie Hendren. Gay, I do not have the book, but do have the following found on the Genweb surname Caperton. ----- Original Message ----- From: "LYNDON NIX" <warpaint1128@sbcglobal.net> To: <madky@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, November 25, 2007 8:46 AM Subject: Re: [MADKY] Green woods 1803 Madison county KY > Gearld, > Do you know what page that can be found on? > I see some Norwood's but can't find where he states Thomas md a Nellie > Norwood? > Gay Nix > > GT <g2door@mindspring.com> wrote: > With the mention of Bernard Caperton's book, I am aware of one error > involving a marriage of a Thomas Caperton to a Nellie Hendren. I'd like to pass along a handy link to help people learn how to trim posts. The site refers to Yahoo groups or lists, but is applicable to any group. I'm on the digest form of this list and the last message in the last digest I received had 10-12 replies still tacked on to the end of the message. It is so hard to read and decipher this way folks! I'd like to get quickly to the meat of the message and see if it pertains to any of the families that I'm researching. Trimming posts is quick and easy before you hit the send button helps immensely! http://www.marthas-web.com/trimming-posts.htm

These Oldhams and their Todd spouses, I don't recognize, but that is because in my genealogical research I deviate from Jesse Oldham, d. ca 1814 testate in Madison Co., KY, to some of his descendants. It would have been helpful to have had some dates in your message. My direct line of Oldhams had either died in Madison Co. or else had migrated from that area before the Civil War, ca 1858 or 1859.. It appears the Oldhams did well in Madison Co., KY and surrounding counties, such as Estill. However, a good many of Jesse's grandchildren by his son Richard *Ready-Money* Oldham and R/Ms two wives migrated elsewhere, mostly to Missouri, if I can believe the censuses!!! Our interchange of messages is below, in case some reader missed this exchange. A good many Oldham males lived long enough to get Rev War pensions [or their widows did] under the pension act of 1832. These are appearing online in several databases--HeritageQuest, available through membership in many local public libraries, now Footnote.com, etc. E.W.Wallace Your message: The Sarah Todd who married George Oldham was the daughter of Caleb R. Todd and Margaret Catherine Williams. The Sarah Todd who married Hiram Oldham was the daughter of Joshua Todd and Elizabeth Palmer. Joshua Todd and the Sarah Todd who married George were both children of Caleb R. Todd and Margaret Catherine Williams. So the Todd's were well connected to the Oldham family. Joshua Todd's son John P. Todd married Polly Oldham. Another son Joshua R. Todd Jr. married Martha A. Oldham. George Oldham & Sarah Todd's son Eschuyler Oldham married Nancy Todd. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Hdanw@aol.com> To: <OLDHAM-L@rootsweb.com>; <MADKY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, November 24, 2007 4:03 PM Subject: [OLDHAM] More Info About James Oldham of Madison Co., KY > Earlier I wrote of two Oldham grooms who appear in marriages of early > Madison Co., KY.
