I have been able to determine that Nellie Davis who married James S. Byrum on 23 Jan 1820 was the daughter of Joshua Davis. In 1820 there appears to be two Joshua Davises living in Madison Co. One of them was the son of Alexander Davis. Does anyone on this list have additional info on either of there Joshuas? Jerry Saylor --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Dear Good Folks, Several days ago I was searching aimlessly through the web and I came across a site that gave an index of those listed in the Madison County Court Order Books, Vols. A and B for the years 1787 to 1803, I think. I wrote down the names of interest to me and the page numbers thay were listed on, but I forgot to write down the name of the author of the book. Is there anyone out there who could tell me the name of the author and where I might purchase the book? I'd be beholdin'. Thank you for your help. Sincerely, Jennifer

I'm sure many of you have read these lists before, but this will jog your memory. Remember, this date precedes the American Revolution. This set of volumes, full of interesting letters and records pertaining to our colonial folk, are available on microfiche (however, there are 270 of them, I finally learned) from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. Each fiche costs 15 cents apiece. Some large university libraries have these sets of books. There is an index in a separate volume, if I remember correctly. Source: William L. Saunders, THE COLONIAL RECORDS OF NORTH CAROLINA, 1769 to 1771, Vol. 8 [Raleigh: 1890], p. 72 [From Orange County Court Records.] North Carolina } Hillsboro District } Ss. At a Superior Court of Justice begun and held for the district aforesaid at the Court house in Hillsboro on the 22nd day of September in the year of Our Lord, one thousand, seven hundred and sixty nine, 1769. Present The Honorable Maurice Moore Esq. Associate Justice. The Sheriff of Granville County returns his list of Jurors, viz. James Yancey, Charles Rust Eaton, Reuben Searcy, Solomon Alston, Sherrard Harris, David Mitchell, Jesse Saunders, Cuthbird Hutson, Samuel Sneed, William Potter, John Young, Robert Lanier. The Sheriff of Orange County returned the following list of Jurors, viz. John Hogan, John Payne, John Gray, Enoch Bradley, John Patterson, Nathaniel Hart, John Nunn, Washam Glenn, Charles Matthews, Tignal Jones, Nathanial Jones, Wm. Rhodes, Richard Berry, William Nunn, Jun., Ebener Starns, John McDonald, John Lowe, Gabriel Davie, William Stroude, Jun., Joseph Gold, Archibald Boling, Robert Lytle, George Foote, Samuel Parkes, Benjamin Black, Chas. Powell, John Powell, Jessie Oldham, William Pauly, Thomas Connelly, James Craig, William Lassiter, John Hunter, Joseph King, Thomas Hart & James Minnis. On motion being made by John Noe, son of Peter Noe, (Miller) that he might be naturalized & proving to the Court that he had taken the sacrament of the Lord's Supper & other requisites by Act of Parliament specified, he accordingly was naturalized by taking the oaths, and making & subscribing the declaration by Law appointed. Comment: Some of these men were involved in the Transylvania Company, later known as Henderson & Co., headed by Col. Richard Henderson of Granville Co., NC. Submitted by E. W. Recently Suzy-Q gave us this great information: Date: Wed, 18 Feb 2004 12:47:13 -0800 From: "Suzy-Q" Subject: [MADKY-L] Madison Co, KY, FHC sources There are lots of interesting resources for Madison Co at FHC library.... Do a search for Madison, Kentucky in "Placenames" at this link: http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp Suzy Response: I second Suzy's suggestion about using films from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. [If you live in Kentucky, you may be able to borrow films from the Kentucky State Archives, but check on that!] It seems that my ancestors from Virginia and from North Carolina were attracted [some were speculators] to Boonesborough and its surroundings and so I have need to know a good deal about the events prior to 1860 in Madison Co., KY. Since I live far from Kentucky, I rely heavily on the films which FHL in Salt Lake City has pertaining to Madison Co. to further my research. The deeds, in particular, interest me. I find that the grantor and grantee indexes for Madsion Co. KY have been nicely typed. There is lots of white space on the film, making the indexes, in particular, very searchable. Of course, all this research takes time, so when I am allowed I put the films on long-term loan at my local FHC. The Commissioners deeds [indexed under C] are of particular interest. Apparently [I am not an attorney, so do not know the Kentucky law at that time] the county court in later years appointed commissioners to help heirs decide what to do with the property which they had inherited--and, at times, perhaps to help the heirs reconcile their differences. I have found long lists of heirs, some of whom are married females, and from such commissioners deeds, I have been able to determine who the females married--even when the marriages took place, say, in Missouri!!! Always on the hunt! And learning something new everyday!!! E.W.Wallace
