Thank you for giving the listing from e-by of the families who are named in John H. Spencer's History of Baptists in Kentucky For those interested in further research, this publication [ 2 volumes] has been filmed twice by the Family history Library in Salt lake City. I am certain it is on the shelves of many genealogical libraries, and probably in lots of public libraries in Kentucky and perhaps in Virginia, whence came many of these Baptists. (To find the FHL catalog listing, go to familysearch.org, look for the link to the catalog, and type in author search, John H. Spencer.) In case you are not familiar with some of these early Baptist families of Kentucky, this is just to advise that many of these Baptist families were intermarried. So, if you find one name that is familiar to you, do a little more research and learn with whom that family intermarried! For example, Rev. Andrew Tribble, who resided for a time and died in Madison Co., KY had several daughters who married into other Baptist families. One of his daughters, Frances Tandy Tribble [called Frankey in some documents] married the old pioneer Michael Stoner, most probably not a well-known Baptist. After Michael died in Wayne Co., KY, Frances gave permission for her dau. Frances to marry Thomas Chilton, a Baptist minister (Wayne Co. marriage records). Later, the mother Frances Stoner married her daughter's father-in-law, the elder Thomas Chilton!!! She is listed that way--Frances Chilton [frequently misspelled] in some records of Kentucky, including a death record kept by kentucky for a few years prior to the Civil War. I do not have my notes handy, but another of Andrew Tribble's daughters married David Chenault, said to be a fire-and-brimstone kind of preacher, also of Madison Co. Somehow the Quisenberrys are connected, but I do not know the connection at present. I hope this interests some of you. By the way, I am frequently intrigued by torn and tattered volumes which appear on bookshelves in libraries--the ones most of us overlook. Before the KY Historical Society moved to its new quarters, I was prowling the shelves for any publication on Henderson Co. KY (other ancestors from NC, not VA) and I found some transcribed minutes of Grave Creek Baptist Church. I learned a good deal about the community in which my ancestor lived, although I do not think he was a member, but some of his children were. With luck you may be able to stumble on such a transcript. E.W.Wallace with many kentucky roots

MADISON COUNTY, KENTUCKY TAX LIST (1787-1804), Microfilm On Ebay: Item #5526369918
Harriett (Hattie) A. Minton died in Richmond, Madison Co., on 11 May 1897. She was buried next to her husband, Harley CO. Minton, in Woodlawn Cemetery, Zanesville, Ohio. I am in need of information on where to locate a death record and a obituary. The only other thing I 'know' about Harriett is... she was supposed to be living with her daughter Ida Belle, born abt 1866 in Ohio. Constance
HELLO, I'M TRYING TO FIND WHO WAS THE FATHER AND MOTHER OF A BENJAMIN KIRBY B.ABT.1833/37 AND WAS MARRIED TO NANCY BAUGH. I THINK HE DIED ABOUT 1810/11, WOULD ANYONE KNOW OF THIS MAN. I THANK YOU. CHUCK POYNTER [email protected]
I, too, am seeking information on a Lemuel JONES. Family history states that Lemuel JONES, wife unknown, was the father of Caleb, Timothy, William Bedford, Ann/e, Isaac and possibly Tamara JONES. Based on the birthplaces his children listed in the 1850 Census, Lemuel may have lived in NORTH CAROLINA before moving to KENTUCKY (Christian Co.?), TENNESSEE and, by 1830, Washington Co., ALABAMA. Some of his children moved to Smith Co., MISSISSIPPI. Any information or clues would be appreciated. Sue Sullivan Oklahoma City
Looking for Parents & Siblings of Lemuel Jones who was likely brother/cousin Stephen Jones in SE Kentucky, Monroe Co. / Cumberland Co. My Main Interest is: Lemuel Jones b. abt 1780 (KY?) d. abt 1834 in Monroe Co. Tompkinsville KY. He Married Sarah Kirkpatrick abt 1805 in KY. They had 15 children. He is my GGG Grandfather. Who were Lemuel Parents and where did they come from? I suspect Virginia or North Carolina. I believe parents may have been in/near a KY Fort or been early settlers with Daniel Boone. 1810 Cumberland Co. KY Census shows Stephen Jones enumerated right next to his brother (twin)/ cousin Lemuel Jones. Stephen/Steven Jones b. abt 1779 in KY (shows that from a 1850 IL census) d in 1856 in Macoupin Co IL married Elizabeth Black in KY. Please email me at [email protected] I will reward $100.00 to first person who can provide more information about the Father/Mother of Lemuel Jones and where they came from. A most helpful site taken from Ancestry Daily News, a website mentioned by Geo. Morgan in his article, "There's Been A Citing". Citation Machine, created by David Warlick of The Landmark Project (http://www.landmark-project.com/citation_machine/index.php ). Simply click on the type of print or electronic resource, located on the left side of the screen, that you want to cite and proceed to fill in the blanks. Voila! You get an instant citation that you can copy and paste into a word processor or genealogy database. Although you still might have to tweak the style a bit to include things such as personal titles (i.e., Rev.) and postnominals (i.e., Ph.D.) and add information regarding repository, it's a great way to quickly generate a quick citation in a pinch. Also be aware that formatting such as underlining and italics may not always transfer to your target software.
Hi Pamela, Although I can't help you with the specific marriage information for which you are searching, I'm trying to determine what the relationship was between the Dysart family you mentioned in your Garrard Co. post (included below) and the family of my 3rd great-grandfather James Alexander (c. 1780-1845) who also lived in Garrard Co., KY. I believe James' father was Samuel Alexander (Birth Date Unknown-1784) who left a will in Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina in 1784 (by the way, Samuel Alexander's will named wife Sarah, daughters Mary and Sarah as well as his "five youngest children," Esther, Margaret, Martha, Elizabeth, and James in addition to executors Samuel Pickens and wife Sarah and witnessed by John Alcorn and James McKillip). Samuel Alexander purchased land from John Bertrand Dysart as evidenced by the following records: Book 1, Minutes of Mecklenburg Co., NC, Court of Common Pleas and Quarter Sesssions - October Session, 1782 (Transcribed) Execution of DeedsOne from John Dysart & Wife to Samuel Alexander for 167 A of Land Dated 11th. Oct. 1781, {proved} by Chas. Nickels. Mecklenburg County Deed Book #11 (Transcribed) 409, p 137. 11 Oct 1781. John Dysart of Burke, heir at law of James Dysart, decd, and Margaret (M) Dysart of Mecklenburg to Samuel Alexander, for 60 Pounds hard money of NC, 167 A in the Welch Tract on the south side of Rocky R adj the Barony Line and Thomas Wallace. Wit: Thomas Nickel and James Patton. Prvd in Oct 1782 Ct by oath of Thomas Nickel. Sam Martin CC. After Samuel Alexander's death in 1784, his wife Sarah Alexander sold this same parcel of land as shown by the following: Mecklenburg County Deed Book #13 (Transcribed) 1459, p. 595. 14 Aug 1788. Sarah (X) Alexander, relict of Samuel Alexander, decd, to Dennis Copeland, for 45 pounds, 167 A in the Welch tract on the south side of Rocky R adj the Barony line and Thomas Wallace. Wit: Oliver Harris and John Lewes. Prvd in Jan 1789 Ct by oath of Oliver Harris. Jno. Rogers, clk. Pro. Tem. Interestingly enough, I find one Sarah Alexander (whom I presume to be the widow of Samuel of Mecklenburg) appearing in Madison Co., KY starting on the 1789 tax list. The last record I have of Sarah Alexander is when she signs consent in 1798 for her daughter Elizabeth to marry George Simpson in Garrard Co. I wonder if Sarah Alexander may have also moved to Tennessee as her oldest daughter Mary (who married Daniel Nichols in Madison Co., KY in 1790) eventually settled in Rutherford Co., TN (present-day Cannon Co., TN). My 3rd great-grandfather James Alexander migrated to Randolph Co., Missouri around 1825. James' son and my 2nd great-grandfather John Alexander (1807-1891) married (second marriage for him) to Charity Denny (1823-1911) in 1863. Charity Denny was the daughter of James Denny and Elizabeth Best, both of whom were also from Garrard Co., KY. Some of the Dysarts also migrated to Randolph Co., MO -- the following biography is from the Randolph County GenWeb database of Randolph County deaths: Dysart, James -- 1777 Burke Co., NC-1853 Rand., [s\o John (17 Dec 1749 Chester Co., PA-10 Sep 1842 Lewisburg, TN) & Martha (Patton)], m. Martha (b. 1780 NC, d\o Robert & Mary (Alcorn) Cowden); to MO 1818 & owned land in southern Rand. He was the third permanent citizen in the county, the other two were the Holman brothers. He ran for the legislature as a Democrat in 1850. He was a Justice of the Peace and took the 1850 Federal Census. children: (1) Nicholas, (2) Robert [d. Saline Co.], (3) John [d. Howard Co.], (4) Rev. James E.; Ref: HRM84 p. 673, John Wayland, OFR p. 93-95 John Dysart shown in the biography as being born in 1749 in Chester Co., PA is "your" John Bertrand Dysart. The Dysart family and Alexander family descendants seem to have maintained close ties in Randolph County, Missouri through the early 1900's. I am curious if you (or any other researchers) have seen Sarah Alexander, widow of Samuel Alexander, mentioned in any Tennessee records? Does anyone know of any other possible relationships between the Dysarts and Alexanders? Thanks in advance. The description of Friendship Cemetery from "Cemetery Records of Madison County" by Kathy Vockery, 1999 reads "Fenced on 3 sides and recently cleaned. On west bank of Silver Creek just past the fording side at the end of Maple Grove Rd." We went there in late Summer 2002 and it was terribly overgrown. You had to park your car on the east side of the creek and walk over to it. It was not easy to pick out that it was there at all from a distance. Hope this helps. I am trying to find the location for the Friendship Church Cemetery in Madison County. My husband's grandmother was buried there and we went to see her grave many years ago, but I can find no reference to it now. Her family lived in the Silver Creek area. She was Mary M. Taylor and married Alvis K Roark. She died about 1904. Can anyone help me locate this cemetery? Has it been renamed or does it no longer exist? Thanks for your help. Katherine Roark

Dear Madison County Historians and Family Researchers, I am looking for the grave of one of my Revolutionary Ancestors, Henry Harris (1742-1833) m. Ann Byrd. His grave which is rumored to me marked, is supposedly located in Eastern Madison County near Panola, 12 miles East of Richmond, KY. Has anyone seen it or know someone that has? Finding this burial place is important to me. Please E-mail me at: [email protected] See Rev War Pension Info for Henry Harris. Having an ancestor's Revolutionary War pension record is great. In general, though, you're not going to find such a record unless the ancestor or his widow lived long enough to file for a pension. (I'm fortunate to have the records of three great-great-great-great-grandfathers who settled in KY - Richard Oldham, Henry Wigginton, and Henry Foster.) Before you order a microfilm, there is a superb resource worth consulting, if you can find a copy in a nearby library. It's Virgil D. White's GENEALOGICAL ABSTRACTS OF REVOLUTIONARY WAR PENSION FILES (The National Historical Publishing Company, Waynesboro, Tennessee, 1992). I moved recently, and don't currently have access to the work. If you can find it, you'll see that it gives an excellent summary of the genealogically relevant information in the pension files. This can guide you as you decide whether or not to order a particular microfilm. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, September 19, 2004 1:08 PM Subject: Revolutionary War Veteran in Kentucky > Did your Revolutionary War Harris family migrate to Kentucky? Dear Good Folks, Does anyone have information regarding the young men from the Madison and Garrard County areas who went off to fight in the Spanish American War? Most specifically, I'm looking to find information about Company B of the 31st United States Voluntary Infantry. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Jennifer
