    2. I have a copy of the Orphan Brigade and it is very good but, even better, write to the Adjutant General, Military Affairs and ask for a list of the men in the Orphan Brigade. There will be a charge for it but, you will get it. I did have it and if I still did, would be willing to share. Sorry. Mary Alice

Debra Maddox Wilson Greenback,Tn Response: The only reason I am answering this is that: Andrew Tribble and his wife are my *redundant ancestors* [that's what my computer program calls them]. My second great-grandparents, however, descended from that family, had left for Texas before the outbreak of the Civil War. May I suggest you do this: Do a google.com search for *kentucky in the civil war* Some libraries are fortunate to have a copy of an OLD book called The Orphan Brigade. I have not immersed myself in that book, but an acquaintance of mine found her ancestor in that book and was able to confirm a family tradition. Maybe google.com will produce some info about the Orphan Brigade. I think they were called the Orphan Brigade because they got no support from the Kentucky government, which was called a *border* state, if I am not mistaken. Good luck! From which of the MANY Tribbles are you descended? Oh, yes, I did a Title Search on the Family History Library Catalog [www.familysearch.org] The link to the catalog is on the lower right of the opening screen. (Ignore the blanks, but later you may want to go back and play around with filling in the blanks) Search for this title: Tribble family You will find listed a book compiled sometime ago by John Keith Rozendahl. You are in luck. This hefty book has been put on 10 microfiche and can be ordered through your nearby LDS family history center/ Each microfiche will cost you 15 cents apiece. The index to the book will be on the last frames of the microfiche. I see Keith has published an addendum, which is the first item to come up on the screen. I did not check to see whether it has been filmed or fiched. Check that also. The nice things about microfiche produced by the FHLibrary in Salt Lake City: The microfiche are inexpensive (in general, although some collections run into the hundreds!!! Such as the Pennsylvania Archives!!! The microfiche generally are retained at your local FHC so that you can refer to them again and again. I don't remember whether Keith concentrates on military service of the various Tribbles, but take a look at his writings. If you are fortunate enough to be near a LARGE university library, you may be able to take a look at some of the Draper Manuscripts, compiled by Lyman C. Draper and held by the Historical Society of Wisconsin. A few interviews about Tribbles of Kentucky in the Kentucky Papers part of the Draper Mss. E.W.Wallace

    2. JOHN OLDHAM OF CASWELL CO. (ca 1757? VA?-1831 KY). According to the Rev War pension application of Richard "Estill" Oldham (of Estill Co., KY), John Oldham was a Captain during the Revolution. In early years, he lived in Caswell Co., NC. In later years, he lived either in Clark Co. or Estill Co., KY. He is listed in the older DAR Patriot Index with these dates: b. 11-10-1757; d. 11-17-1831; m. Annis Rice Capt NC Heirs. John appears on the 1777 tax list of Caswell Co., St. David's Dist., with no land. He appears on 1784 tax list of Caswell Co., St. David's Dist., l white poll, 1 black poll, 640 A on Stony Creek. (TLC Genealogy, Caswell County North Carolina tax lists 1777, 1780 and 1784 [Miami Beach: TLC Genealogy]) John Oldham received compensation for his activities in the American Revolution. From a compilation of Revolutionary Accounts of North Carolina: "The United States of America to the State of North Carolina Dr: For Sundries furnished and Cash paid the Militia of North Carolina Virginia and South Carolina as allowed by the Auditors of Hillsborough District in June 1782 as p:Report No. 82" "[No.] 1972 To John Oldham No. 257 - 318:10 - [pds - specie] (Weynette Parks Haun., North Carolina Revolutionary Army Accounts, Accounts of the United States with North Carolina [Treasurer, State], Book C [Part XIV], p. 1904) Additional payments are also listed by Haun: "2369x To Captain John Oldham for Militia Services of himself and Compy. as p:Pay Roll No. 1245 @ +1282 - 145:12 [pds] -" ... "2371x To Captain John Oldham for Militia Services of himself and Compy. as p:Pay Roll No. 1245 @ +1287 - 32: 3 [pds] - (Haun, p. 1912) According to Caswell Co. marriage records, John Oldham married Anne Rice 26 Feb 1783. Hezekiah Rice was bondsman. According to his birthdate given in widow's pension, John was approximately age 26 when he married. More research needs to be conducted. The name John Oldham does not appear in the index of Kendall's DEEDS OF CASWELL COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA 1777-1817; however, since he was taxed on land, he may have acquired his land through a grant from the government, or he may have acquired from a family member and the deed was not recorded. Caswell Co. NC Will Books indicate that at Dec court 1778, John Oldham was one of the buyers at sale of estate of Joseph Mabery, 4 Dec 1778. Other buyers were Nathaniel Williams, Col. Joseph Williams, and Jacob Williams. Nthaniel Williams and Col. Joseph Williams may be the sons of the elder Nathaniel Williams, probably of colonial Hanover Co., reported son of John Williams (d. ca 1735) of Hanover Co., the probable immigrant ancestor. The identity of Jacob Williams is unknown. 1. Who were Wallaces of Wallace Mill Road???
    2. M. A. Farrell
    3. Does anyone know of the Wallace family associated with Wallace Mill Road off Hiwy 52 between Silver Creek and Paint Lick? Could it have been Michael Wallace, died c. 1810/20? My 5thGGM Hannah Wallace (dau of Michael) married James Anderson (1757-1831) living in that area in 1780's. I drove down this old one-lane road when there in Oct 2005, but turned around at the first wide space (down at bottom of the hill) and came back out. Could the old mill have been at this place? No dam evident, but seemed to have now been dry creek bed. Mary Alice ________________________________________ PeoplePC Online A better way to Internet http://www.peoplepc.com

    3. Does anyone know the history of Wallace Mill Rd (North, only, off Hiwy 52, and East of Paint Lick, West of Silver Creek?? Is there actually an old mill down there somewhere? I "discovered" it when I was there in October this year, and found it very intriguing - so narrow and down hill as far as I went. There was a truck behind me and the road was so narrow (one lane) that as soon as I found a place to pull off, I turned around and came back out. All those stone walls were ancient; I suspect the Wallace's were the family of Hannah Wallace (c.1760-1834) daughter of Micheal Wallace and Anne Allen. Hannah was my 4th GGGGgm, and married James Anderson (1757-1831). They are both buried in the nearby Samuel Campbell/John Anderson cemetery on Peytontown Road. ________________________________________ PeoplePC Online A better way to Internet http://www.peoplepc.com

Caswell Co. NC Will Books indicate that at Dec court 1778, John Oldham was one of the buyers at sale of estate of Joseph Mabery, 4 Dec 1778. Other buyers were Nathaniel Williams, Col. Joseph Williams, and Jacob Williams. Nathaniel Williams and Col. Joseph Williams may be the sons of the elder Nathaniel Williams, probably of colonial Hanover Co., reported son of John Williams (d. ca 1735) of Hanover Co., the probable immigrant ancestor. The identity of Jacob Williams is unknown.
