    3. It started this past week, those lists that are on Rootsweb that are not being used are being taken down.  So, if you have lists that you use now and then and do not want them to be taken down, how about sending a message to it now and then.  If you have not found all your ancestors, write for help.  If you do have all your ancestors, write with research clues and places to use on the internet that helped you. In the past, these have been good lists that helped me find my ancestors. Thanks, -- Pat Connors http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

    3. As many may or may not know, since the middle of August, many of us did not receive any Rootsweb mail.   Seems like AT&T and other email providers did not like all the anti-spam stuff that was put in our posts.  While us list owners were told that first, it was ATT's fault and then that ATT had banned Rootsweb, the long and short of it is that ATT treated the anti-spam code as spam so didn't deliver any posts that had it in it to us. You may have noticed a few days ago, the links in the emails are now clean, without any spam warning.  Check the link below my name at the end of this post.  It is a clean link, no gobably gook.  After of couple of days of clean emails, ATT, yesterday started allowing emails from Rootsweb to go through. So now that we are back 100%, lets start communicating.  Do every single one of you, have your family tree completed and back more than one generation?  I have one branch back to my 4th great grandfather by finding my 3rd great grandmother was born in County Down, Ireland in 1790.  It took me 19 yrs to find her place of birth.  She married a Smith in 1809 in New York City and that did not make it easy but by following her in the various censuses, I had a time when she didn't show up in them anymore so it was time to find her death certificate. Using the Italian Genealogy Group website, I found her death date and was able to get a copy of her death cert using Family History Library films.  It gave me her baptism date, her maiden name and her place of birth.  So with that info, I found her baptism record with the name of her father and also found four brothers. Here is the link for the Italian Genealogy Group.  Their records do not cover just Italian ancestors, mine was Irish. http://italiangen.org/records-search/ Now I think we have to get our lists busy again.  So, why not share one of your research journeys that was successful in finding one of your ancestors.  Share how you found a record that opened doors -- Pat Connors http://www.connorsgenealogy.com

    3. Seeking information about Margaret Maclean born Feb 4/14, 1988/1889/1897 or 1898 in Govan, Lanarkshire. All birth dates have been used on different documents over the years. Feb 14, 1897 was the correction used on her death certificate. We are working on finding out why it was changed & the proof that this was the right birthdate. Margaret had a child in Calgary, Alberta but never named the father. We do not know when she came to Canada. Margaret never talked of family. Many thanks for any help. Diana

    3. I found this on the free Genealogy in Time Magazine online. I haven't had time to play with it so if any do, can you post to the list about how one narrows down a surname to a place. Thanks UK – A very interesting collection of legal records are The Proceedings of the Old Bailey 1674 to 1913 website. The Old Bailey was the central criminal court for England and Wales. It was located in central London. This court heard the most serious criminal cases for London and much of the rest of the country. The Proceedings of the Old Bailey website contains a great collection of detailed records from some 200,000 criminal cases spanning roughly 240 years. This collection has been slowly increasing over time. It is a great website to check if you want to know if you had any really interesting characters in your family tree. Only the most hardened criminals ended up at the Old Bailey. Access is free. 3. Hi Patricia; Thanks for your response. I have not been able to trace the patterns of movement for my MacLeans. I know they were in Barra from about 1814 when John MacLean and Catherine MacNeil were married up to some time in the 1820's. My great grandfather Neil was born in 1814 and his sister Catherine(#2) about 1819. They next appear in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia in about 1840/41. If they lived in Glasgow it would appear that it was not for very long. Also, it is possible and quite likely that John MacLean or his ancestors, prior to living in Barra, came from one of the more traditional home areas of the MacLean clan. And the search goes on. 3. Hello Patricia; I have ancestors John MacLean and wife Catherine MacNeil from Vatersay in Barra. They had about seven children the oldest being Neil who was my great grandfather. Neil had two sisters by the name of Catherine. According to my information. The first one was born about 1915 and the second about 1819. As I can find nothing on the first one I suspect she died young(at 3-4 years) One bit of information I have on the second one states that she was born in Glasgow. Possibly the family had moved from Barra to Glasgow before she was born. In any case Patricia, I was wondering if you might have come across this family while searching your MacLeans? 1. ADMIN MSG: Please read, about list changes

    3. As many of you may or may not be aware of, Rootsweb's lists are going through changes. They are being changed to the Mailman program to administer the various list's needs, such as subscribing, unsubscribing, etc. For the past month or so, I have participated in a beta trial program to work out the bugs of switching from one program to another and I can attest that this will be fairly painless. However, some may find some changes and have questions. So, for the first week or so, the list is open to address those issues as they arise and I will be here to answer any questions you my have, either on the list of off the list. Rootsweb has devised a schedule for switching the many lists that they have over to Mailman. This list is due to change over on Thursday, August 24th. If there are changes in the schedule or if you are interested in when your other lists will convert, you can check the schedule here: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/migrate_sched.html -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com
