This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jpadjan Surnames: Padjan, Padjen Classification: biography Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.eeurope.macedonia.general/527/mb.ashx Message Board Post: About 9 years ago I began to conduct research on my original family name, or surname, Padjan, in order to determine what the true origin of my family name is. It is a very rare surname. I had known for years, intuitively and from linguistic and onomastic study, that it was not a Croatian surname (as I had been told) or even a Slavic surname, but I could not, in those early years of my research, determine what its true origin was. I could only determine what its origin was not. In 2013 I discovered that my family name, or surname, originated among a people known as Padjanaks (often spelled Badjanaks, Patzinaks, Pechenegs, etc.) who arrived in Europe from Central Asia about 895 A.D. Although most people have never heard of the Padjanaks (and the Kangar), they had a major and lasting impact on world history, and especially on European history. Last year I began to write a book about the origin of my surname, mostly to inform my family of the discovery, or discoveries, that I ha! d made about it, and about how I had made those discoveries. (I have had my DNA tested for genetic ancestry and so have my parents and my maternal grandmother.) The more I looked into the origin of my surname, the more I learned about the tribe that I descend from, whose name I bear, namely, the Padjanaks. As a result of learning a great deal about my ancestors the Padjanaks (and the Kangar that became a part of the Padjanak tribe), my book evolved into a book on the true origin of the Padjanaks and Kangar (the Kangar were known as Sumerians in Mesopotamia). (Being directly descended from these peoples or tribes, and having had my DNA tested in a couple of different ways, I am in a unique position to offer new insights on the origin of these peoples, my ancestors.) Thus what started out as a humble book on the origin of my family name has evolved into a serious book on the origin of the tribe that passed the name on to me and my family. I made a number of discoveries about ! the Padjanaks and the Kangar in the course of researching and writing my book (discoveries that no one else has made) as well as a number of discoveries pertaining to peoples and tribes known to history, and related or connected to the Padjanaks and Kangar, such as the Kushans, the Vlachs, the Morlachs, the Romani (also known as Gypsies), and certain groups of Huns (the Padjanaks were Huns) and others. I published my book about 6 months ago on Scribd. It is free, for now. I will eventually sell it, and will eventually, perhaps, seek a publisher. Whether I make money selling it is not so important to me. I am happy to have made some important discoveries about the Padjanaks, the Kangar, the Kushans, the Romani, or Gypsies, and the rest that I discuss in the book, that no one else has made. That gives me intellectual satisfaction, and intellectual satisfaction makes me happy. In my book I demonstrate that my ancestors the Padjanaks, whatever the spelling of the name (Badjanaks, Patzinaks, Pechenegs, etc.), were, in the main, Huns, but known as W! hite Huns, and that before they were known as Padjanaks, they had been known as Kushans. I prove that the Padjanaks were not just descended from the Kushans, but that the Padjanaks were the Kushans. I include in my book the results of all our DNA tests, except those of my grandmother. If you have never had your DNA tested for genetic ancestry, you may be interested in looking at the results of our tests. They will give you an idea of what kinds of information you can get from different DNA tests. It is very interesting to have your DNA tested for genetic ancestry. Ultimately we realize that we are not only all related, but more closely related than we may all realize (not that I ever doubted our relatedness anyway). If you are interested in history, you may be interested in reading my book, The Padjans (Padjanaks, Pechenegs). She immigrated to Canada and then to Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, USA. She married Dono Stavroff/Guveloff. I've been told the last names were changed by the government, but the family believes the original surname was Dimitroff (or similar spellings). This woman is my grandson's great grandmother and I would love to allow him to know more about her and his rich Macedonian heritage. Thank you! That family in period records is listed as ethnic Macedonian and of Eastern Orthodox faith. Use the original spelling in both variants if you are trying to locate via social networks like facebook people with same surname from Macedonia who might be your relatives and able to help you with your research. I cannot give you any more advice without knowing and confirming the place of birth or last residence of your father - try to obtain a record or a document that has that information from his life after emigrating. *** "Rodoslovlje" Serbian Genealogy Society www.rodoslovlje.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
