HI list, If anyone has access to trade or street directories for Fall River for the years 1908 or 1909,would they check for Columbia St Fall River,street number unknown. I ma looking for people with the surnames of Hargreaves,,Smith, Chadwick,or Rishton.In 1908 my grandfather,grandmother and an aunt came to the USA aboard the Lusitania arriving at New York,their surname was Hargreaves,on the shops manifest their destination was to New Bedford Ma,to visit a person listed as cousin W Rishton,1 Haneson St New Bedford. ON their return journey to England aboard the Lusitania their son was born 21 April 1908 and their last place of abode,as given on his birth cert was Columbia St Fall River. I know that this is somewhat complicated but I would like to discover who my grandparents came to the states to visit Thank you Gilly

Gil, Without a First name or a birth date it is very difficult. I looked at the 1910 Federal Census for Fall River. I did not see anybody by those names living on Columbia Street-Thomas,President Ave, and June Sts. Since I did not have a birth date or first name I could not verify. Are you sure they were living in Fall River. There were a lot of Hargreaves living in New Bedford in 1910. In looking at the Ellis Island ship manifests for Hargreaves, I saw only one who arrived on the Lusitania in 1908 - and he was not headed to Fall River. Are you sure of the details you've provided. Exact dates and full names might be helpful.

Ancestry.com has a city directory for Fall River. I think it is for 1880 and 1890. I haven't renewed my membership this time around, so unfortunately, I can't have a look for you. I find no Haneson St in New Bedford Directories ca. 1908. Are you sure it was 1 Haneson St.? In 1908 there was a John Rishton home at 24 Viall. In 1907 John T. Rishton home was at 10 Ashley. John is listed as a mule spinner. In 1909 there were 3: Gilbert Rishton home at 67 Dartmouth, John T Rishton business at 16 Ashley and Mrs Mary A. Rishton home at 24 Viall.

Hi Gilly, I found a Fall River Directory for the years 1880 and 1882 at Google Books there are some Smiths listed on Columbia Street . I know it is earlier than you were looking for but who knows how long that family had been living there before 1908?
