    3. New to list Have a distant cousin in Blackburn Lancashire, UK who has traced some of his family to New Bedford Mass. Surname is CRITCHLEY I received this email from Keith Critchley today I have a letter from Herbert Critchley, dated January 8th 1941, and posted from 135 North Road, New Bedford, Mass. Addressed to my father Henry Critchley. Searching through various info I came across the 1901 census entry for an address in Blackburn for John Critchley (Henry's eldest son), born 1860, and John's family- wife and 5 kids, including Herbert aged 7. Later, found an entry in USA records: Herbert Critchley, DOB March 2nd 1894, died New Bedford, August 1967, aged 73. All the dates match up! In the letter he mentions that he has friends also from Blackburn living there, but no mention of any family. Is it possible you may be able to find out more? Herbert's father John and my great grandfather Edward were brothers. I know nothing about the other brothers/sister who came to Blackburn with Henry, so anything would be appreciated. Keith So far I have found and sent over to Keith ship list files and an obit ... Herbert came to vist his brother Ernest in 1923 in New Bedford ...Herbert was listed as a Pro Boxer. left his wife in Blackburn. I found his brother Ernest came in 1922 and he came to his cousin Mr Turner in New Bedford Mass.... Ernest was a driller on the ship list. Not sure yet when Herbert came over to New Bedford tho. Possibly going on son obit it was in the 1920s Found this obit for one of Herberts son's 1997 Leslie Critchley NEW BEDFORD -- Leslie Critchley, 79, of Acushnet, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Mildred (Bradshaw) Critchley and son of the late Herbert and Elizabeth (Porter) Critchley. Born in Blackburn, Lancashire, England, Mr. Critchley lived in this country more than 70 years. He worked at the Hathaway Mill as a loom fixer and was a member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church. Besides his widow, Mr. Critchley is survived by a son, David L. Critchley of Londonderry, New Hampshire; and a granddaughter. Arrangements are by the Latham Funeral Home, 823 Brock Ave., New Bedford. Need to do census searching and more ship lists to see if I can find Herbert Is there a Historical Society in New Bedford that we might contact to see if they might have more info on Herbert and Ernest Critchley? Is there a Library in New Bedford that we can contact for obits if possible on Herbert and Ernest and their wifes ? Thank you Sharon
