Seeing your recent posting reminded me that I wanted to advise you of my e-mail address change. You recently sent me a note at [email protected] but that address is about to expire. Please update your address book to post to [email protected] As for your quest stated above, have you been to the Massachusetts Archives at 220 Morrisey Blvd. in Dorchester? This may not be new news to you but if you have not gone there it is a great resource. I was there again this past July when my family all got together for a week on Cape Cod and I stayed over an extra day just to do research. I found out a number of years ago that dealing with the folks at city hall (New Bedford, Fall River, etc.) can be useful and they are frequently of great assistance - but - all the city data is posted at the state level and often you can find something there that wasn't found at city hall. Things like mis-spellings, use of nicknames, etc. throw them off when you will know you are looking at the right record when you see it. I had a number of cases in Fall rive where their response was "no record found" but I located them once I went to the Archives. The births, marriages and deaths from 1841 through 1910 are indexed in large ledger sized books, each book dealing with a part of the alphabet, and for a five year span. It is really simple to look up someone in these books and then go directly to the microfilm cabinet a few feet away to look up the actual record. As I said, maybe you have done this but if not, I really recommend doing it. A day there is worth a month trying other means. If you need directions to get there (by car or MTA) let me know.
