I wonder if your AD Gifford is any relation to the Enos Gifford, JP, who married Stephen Brownell Jr and Mary Coggeshall in Little Compton, RI, on Dec. 11, 1803. Dear Karen: According to my records, we would be cousins at the George Brownell and Mary Thurston. It's hard not to connect on Brownell's in Little Compton :-). Your comment on Enos Gifford is interesting. I see two Enos Gifford in LC that could fit the profile for being a JP in 1803. It turns out as well, that LC is only about 40 miles from Westport. So if the position runs in the family...? It would seem logical that there is some connection. I've tried to find a city directory or other means of finding vocations and employment from that area but no luck yet. Thanks for writing.
