Hello to all, I am new to the list and hopefully someone out there may be able to help me trace my ancestors to the New England area of the U.S. The family that I am trying to trace is the Boyle family of Gaspé, Quebec, Canada. The first Boyle to arrive in Gaspé was James who arrived in 1789, supposedly from the Boston area of Massachusetts. He came to Gaspé with his wife Mary and children – John, George, Jane, Mary, and James. The family may have been United Empire Loyalists but I have found no records as such. Perhaps someone has a lead for me. Many Thanks, Jim
Perhaps one of the following hints If James was a seaman or fisherman, he could logically end up in Gaspe for economic reasons. If you check the Vital records of Mass to 1850 in NEHGS online, you would not find many persons named Boyle -- but along the north shore of Mass (Gloucester, Newburyport, etc) you find Boyles in good number. There is a James Boyle in NEHGS records of Newbury MA -- intentions recorded for James Boyle and Abigail Plumer (Plumber) Sep 29 1744. I don't see any other records for that James. NEHGR 84:144 Boyle's Journal of Occurrences in Boston details many persons named Boyle. Not sure about yours, but there is one interesting quote: "(John)Boyle married secondly 30 Jun 1778 after his return to Boston, Elizabeth Cagneau, who bore him at least five children and outlived him." The name of the fifth child is James Boyle but he is a minor in 1816. So take your pick and happy hunting. -----Original Message----- From: mabristo-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mabristo-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of James Caputo Sent: Thursday, September 21, 2006 4:33 PM To: mabristo@rootsweb.com Subject: [MABRISTO] Boyle Genealogy Hello to all, I am new to the list and hopefully someone out there may be able to help me trace my ancestors to the New England area of the U.S. The family that I am trying to trace is the Boyle family of Gaspé, Quebec, Canada.
