    3. Several months ago we were kindly provided information on this message board that the cemetery in which John Read, D. 1685, and his wife Sarah, D 1661, were buried was called the "Old Burying Ground" and is on or adjacent to the property of the Newman Congregational Church in East Providence, RI. One of our daughters will be in Providence in a week or two and would like to view and photograph the grave markers for their graves. Looking at the Google Map aerials and maps, we guess that the church is at the northwest corner of Pawtucket and Newman Avenues and that the cemetery is now a public cemetery called the Hunt Newman Cemetery. Where could we obtain further information, such as the exact location of these graves and the hours when the cemetery may be open to the public? Thank you. S/Stan Zuris in N.M.

S/Stan Zuris in N.M. ------------------------------- You're right about the location and name of the cemetery where John & Sarah Read are buried. The entrance to the cemetery is directly across the street (Newman Ave.) from the church. It has been about 7 years since I visited the cemetery, so I don't remember if the hours were posted, but it seemed to be open all day. The Read graves weren't far from the entrance and would be easy to find. The main stone is a fairly large one. Marion Pearce Carter says in her book (a typescript), "The Old Rehoboth Cemetery", that the Read stones "were renewed by their descendants in 1880." Jim Bullock Littleton, Colorado
