This is a notice sent to members of the BPGS .by Ken Graves ..I have taken it apart and cut and pasted the information here below ...This is FREE and open to the PUBLIC...Gil Bagley The Family History Center in Foxboro, MA has scheduled a Family History Conference for Saturday, May 4, 2002. It looks interesting and attendance is FREE. It is divided into two tracks, one on general genealogy topics and one for LDS members. Registration is 8:00-8:45 a.m., a welcoming address is 8:45-9:10, and the classes are 9:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The schedule they sent me as attached. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Children Shall Turn to their Fathers… (Malachi 4:6) To meet the needs of our church members, and our many patrons, the classes listed below will focus on a variety of topics falling into the following categories: ( General Genealogy Topics will concentrate on the genealogical records and research tools available in our local and regional repositories. ( Records and Strategies from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints: Will address the wide-array of research tools made available through the Local Family History Library and Local Family History Centers. The public is welcome to attend any of the following classes. We also encourage members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to attend, as our Ward Family History Consultants will be available to help you with your four generation research. These programs will be especially helpful to the person just beginning their research. There is no charge, but please pre-register! 8:00- 8:45 Registration 8:45-9:10 Welcome and Opening Remarks: “Why members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints do Family History?” Meeting TimesChoose one item per time block. National Archives: Census, Passenger Lists, and Naturalization Records are just a few of the many varied records available. This presentation will outline how these and so many more records may be accessed to assist in your personal research. 2. Internet Genealogy: With the virtual "explosion" of interest and usage of the internet to do genealogy, this presentation will offer ideas and suggestions to help maximize the time you spend surfing for information. 3. Resources at the Family History Center: An explanation of the many records, research helps, videos, books, and computer resources available at the Foxboro Family History Center. 4. Family Search on the Internet: This website has a vast amount of information including indexes, research aids, educational tools, and opportunities to share your family history with others. This program will feature an online demonstration of how to use this website and how it can help you with your research. 10:30 – 11:40 1. Massachusetts State Archives: This presentation will identify the resources available in the records of the Commonwealth to help fill in some of the missing pieces of your family "puzzle.” 2. Documentation - The key to effective reliable research is documentation. Many a researcher knows how to do the research but is there any "right way" to document what you've found? We will attempt to answer this question. 3. P.A.F.: Personal Ancestral File Software for Beginners: This program will walk you through the steps needed to input family history data, with highlights of the programs features, and reporting capabilities. 4. Family Search on the Internet: This website has a vast amount of information including indexes, research aids, educational tools and opportunities to share your family history with others. This program will feature an online demonstration of how to use this website and how it can help you with your research. 11:45 – 1:00 1. Local Genealogical Resources - Many of us know about, and have used the National Archives and State Archives. Come find out what else is available in the local area that you can go to, in furthering your research. 2. Five Steps to Completing Your Family History: President Spencer W. Kimball has said, “We feel an urgency for this great work to be accomplished and encourage members to accept this responsibility. Members do so by writing their personal and family histories, … completing their four-generation research, and then continuing their family research in order to redeem their dead.” (“No Unhallowed Hand Can Stop the Work”, Ensign, May 1980, p.5.) This program will provide the beginner with key principles and processes of Family History using the 5-Step Method. Please prepare by filling out as much of the pedigree chart on the back of this form. Also please be sure to pre-register so we can be sure to have enough staff available to help you. 4. TempleReady: In this program we will show how to prepare the names you have recorded in your PAF software, for submission to the temple for ordinances. 9:15-10:25 1.
