Hi Betty, The library in Fall River has moved next door during renovation period. Yes, the viewers are awful!!! The library has so many reels of film, but it's very trying to search these films with the viewers they have. No, you cannot search the books at City Hall for an ancestor. I think this is a shame, because more than once I've stood there waiting for a death certificate to be located and then typed out, only to find it was the wrong person, or it had no information such as parents, etc. and then having to pay for it. I wonder if there is a better way to obtain these certificates? I haven't tried yet, but I've heard that ordering from the Mass State Archives is the cheapest and best way to go. Good Luck, Paula
I've not ordered from the Massachusetts State Archives, but I have spent hours there each week these past few months. The staff is forever checking records for those who send in requests.
