Hi Betty: I'm not a real estate lawyer, but when I read the 2nd deed, I don't see anything which implies a connection. There were laws protecting a wife against her husband selling off the land and leaving her destitute; hence Polly signing away her dower rights (her legal right to 1/3 of her husband's property). Polly was in essence agreeing to the land sale. One thing that may or may not be meaningful is that he sold the land for exactly what he paid for it a year earlier; no profit and no loss.
