    3. Gilly, I couldn't find the marriage of the parents in Massachusetts. The birth record of Emma Jane (1862 vol 150 pg 107 item 290 Fall River) shows her father was a soldier and both parents were born in England. Do you have access to ancestry.com? I'm wondering if William Whittaker was a civil war soldier. As to the NEHGS database. It is available with an annual subscription of $75 at www.newenglandancestors.org . The database consists of copies of the town records of birth, marriage, and death records submitted to the Massachusetts Vital Records folks and then transferred to the Massachusetts State Archives. Although there are some errors, mostly computer scanning ones, it is a good tool for searching for Massachusetts folks. Please note there seems to be more problems with the surnames at the end of the alphabet. The 1886-1890 births for example won't show anyone past the middle of the S surnames. Every other page for the 1896-1900 births starting with the "R" surnames had the page chopped off. Additionally, a number of the Fall River births between 1890 and 1910 have not had their images linked to the records and are not available yet. I'm busy connecting Cambridge births right now, but will be getting to the Fall River folks in a month or so.
