    2. DONNA CORNELIUS
    3. Hello, I'm new to this site and hope someone can assist me. I am searching for records of Anne Townsend. I know that she married my ggg-grandfather William Bottomley some time around 1870. The 1870 U.S. census has them living in Fall River Ward 1. I know that she past away before 26 July 1874, when he married my ggg-grandmother, Julia Parsons. Sorry that I don't have anymore information on Anne. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Donna C

    3. Gilly, I couldn't find the marriage of the parents in Massachusetts. The birth record of Emma Jane (1862 vol 150 pg 107 item 290 Fall River) shows her father was a soldier and both parents were born in England. Do you have access to ancestry.com? I'm wondering if William Whittaker was a civil war soldier. As to the NEHGS database. It is available with an annual subscription of $75 at www.newenglandancestors.org . The database consists of copies of the town records of birth, marriage, and death records submitted to the Massachusetts Vital Records folks and then transferred to the Massachusetts State Archives. Although there are some errors, mostly computer scanning ones, it is a good tool for searching for Massachusetts folks. Please note there seems to be more problems with the surnames at the end of the alphabet. The 1886-1890 births for example won't show anyone past the middle of the S surnames. Every other page for the 1896-1900 births starting with the "R" surnames had the page chopped off. Additionally, a number of the Fall River births between 1890 and 1910 have not had their images linked to the records and are not available yet. I'm busy connecting Cambridge births right now, but will be getting to the Fall River folks in a month or so. 3. If you need additional information on Ellen, her death record is on the NEGHS site and has her maiden name as Ellen Hutchins, and gives her father as Richard Hutchins and mother as Harriet Hill. Note that the 1900 census index on Ancestry has an incorrect age for Ethel - on the actual image her age is 17 and her birth is listed as Nov 1882. And since Ellen lists having given birth to only one child, it is probably safe to assume Ethel had no siblings. John Pee is a nephew and was also listed with Ellen and John Meads in 1881 in Acton, Middlesex, England. Another niece and nephew with the surname Pee were also listed with John and Ellen. Richard Hutchins is widowed and listed with them, also.

    3. Hi List, Firstly a large thank you for those that have helped me so far, it has really opened up a huge area of research for me with the Yates family arriving in Taunton in 1880's. It would appear that a few journeys were made back and forth with Jane Yates (nee Webb) bringing or indeed sponsoring her nieces and nephews across to Taunton also I have found her travelling with Clara White and Amelia Webb to date... I still haven't connected with anyone researching these families to date which is my huge hope as my Great Grandfather was left behind even though only a few yeras old and it does leave a conundrum, and I still haven't traced his father William either. My big hope is that someone out there knows why the Yates family went to the states and I can try and piece it all together. Any ways I am waffling now (we do that in England a lot!). My question is are there any other research lists that you can recommend as I am a little lost when it comes to US research. Are there any obvious places people went from Taunton, if they left the area? Here are some of them in 1901: 1900 United States Federal Census about Jane Yates Name: Jane Yates Home in 1900: Taunton Ward 2, Bristol, Massachusetts Age: 60 Estimated birth year: abt 1840 Birthplace: England Relationship to head-of-house: Head Race: White Occupation: View image Immigration year: 1883 Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age Jane Yates 60 James A Yates 27 Thomas Yates 36 Harry Yates 20 Istey Yates 17 Carry Yates 25 Malinda White 24 Neice ... thanks to theclown16 for this :) Any help truly appreciated Nick

    3. Thank you so much for looking up that info from MA database. It has actually put the final part of jigsaw for me as he gave wrong ages for himself and rest of family when they went across the pond so there was always a faint possibility that it was another family with same names in same order, but naming of father as Moses confirms it to me. Fantastic, thank you very much Bets wishes Nick On 5 Dec 2006, at 18:08, theclown16@optonline.net wrote: > Hi Nick: > Not searching Yates but have access to MA Databases. 3. Hi, My first post to this list so please forgive me for rambling a little! I am researching the Yates family and have just found that my 3Gt grandmother and Grandfather emigrated to Massachusetts in 1886 ending up in Taunton in Bristol county where they are all still in 1910 census where the household is: Jane Yates Head 78 widow (her husband was Richard Yates who did emigrate with her and some of their children) James 36 single Cassie (who I believe was really Caroline) 34 Single Harry 30 single and they also have living with them Jane's grandaughter Jennie who emigrated in 1901 and is 21 Single Harry married Jessie and is still in Taunton in 1920. I am wondering if anyone else is researching this family as I am descended from one of Jane's son's William who doesn't appear to have emigrated with the rest of the family, yet he has also disappeared off the face of the Earth in England too! Any info truly gratefully received (especially if I have some cousins out there I never knew about!!) Best wishes Nick Nick Griffin nick.griffin@mac.com

    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Horace I. CRANDALL of New Bedford, Massachusetts which was taken at the W. Chase Studio in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1860's with Horace likely in his 40's at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I believe that this is likely Horace Irving CRANDALL b. 27 Feb 1824 in Westerly, RI and married Sarah CUSHMAN of New Bedford, MA on 18 Dec 1854. He can be traced through census records as follows: 1860 census of New Bedford, MA; Horace I. CRANDALL, age 36, a Conductor, born RI Sarah E. CRANDALL, age 33, born MA Alfred CRANDALL, age 4, born MA Eliza H. As the births are outside of the database's time frame, thought someone on the list might like a heads up. The entries are on the image at Volume 313 page 150. STURTEVANT, Emily C, 20 October 1834, parents Zachariah, Catherine Hilliard, residence of parents N.B. Father's occupation Merchant. Father born Martha's Vineyard, mother born Dartmouth STURTEVANT, George C, 30 May 1837, same information as Emily's STURTEVANT, William B, 25 November 1840, same information as Emily's STALL, William H, 28 January 1834, parents Samuel Jr, Caroline Frost, residence of parents: N.B. Occupation of father Wheelwright. Father born in N.B, mother born in New York. I also linked images for other entries for New Bedford that are on this volume and page number, but are within the 1841-1910 time frame. Sue Richart

    2. Very interesting, as Ms Sampson there told me that everything is on index cards by date and so they couldn't locate anybody whose date of death or burial I didn't have. So the only extra people I have gotten are the ones who are in the same plot as the one I requested. In a couple of cases that was several additional ones. Joan

    3. If you ask them nicely in a written request, they'll also gladly print out anyone else with the same surname. Mention the variations you have seen in spelling--they found 10 relatives--mostly infants and small children that I didn't even know existed, who were born/died between census years. When they do a surname search, they also come up with those who have a maiden name as the name you mention. Ask for copies of burial cards and plot numbers, and a map of the cemetery. Send a SASE with your request or include a generous donation for postage. I was able to find 23 relatives in unmarked graves by requesting the records. (It took about 4 weeks.) Also check out the Southern New England Irish website. They have transcribed MANY stones from Fall River cemeteries, including St. Patricks. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ussnei/ ----- Original Message ----- From: <McCarthyJH@aol.com> To: <mabristo@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, November 13, 2006 7:51 PM Subject: Re: [MABRISTO] St. Patricks Cemetery? > Hi, > > I agree with Jim.
