Greetings, My cousin in Germany is in the process of compiling a book about the Hempels of the Stolberg (Harz) region, and I'm wondering if someone might be able to do a few NEHGS lookups so I can provide him with a few dates I don't have on file for our American line. I'd be glad to do ancestry.com lookups in return (but they don't yet have Bristol Cty vital records from the 2nd half of the 19th century). Here's what I'm looking for: #1) a marriage record for Charles William Hempel (born 1850 in Osterode am Harz, Kingdom of Hanover [Prussia by the time he married]) who married Emily Becker (d/o Carl Becker and Marie [sometimes listed as Mary] Beier). The marriage may have been recorded in Attleborough or North Attleborough, or else in Providence RI (where Emilie grew up). #2) a birth record for Carl Hempel (s/o Charles William Hempel and Emily Becker). He was born in 1879 in (I believe) Attleborough or North Attleborough. #3 a marriage record Carl Hempel and Grace King (d/o Edward Martin King and Ella Tappan) in Attleborough or North Attleborough about 1903. Thanks for any help you might be able to provide. I've "rescued" photographs belonging to the HALL Family. The first is a photograph of William HALL which was taken at the Bierstadt Bros. Studio in New Bedford, MA. The photograph is dated August 1866 with William appearing to be in his early teens at the time. In addition to his name, someone has written "hay cold time" on the back of the photograph as well. The second photograph is identified as William Coleman HALL and was taken at the New York Photography Studio in Philadelphia, PA and is dated 1873 with William appearing to be in his early 20's at the time. The third photograph is a duplicate of the second photograph. I believe all are of the same person, however, I can't be sure. Based on limited research I believe that I was able to locate the family in census records as follows: 1880 census of Philadelphia, PA: James HALL, age 68, a Farmer, born PA, parents born MD/PA Mary J. HALL, wife, age 64, Keeping House, born Philadelphia, parents born Philadelphia William C. HALL, son, age 28, a Lawyer, born PA + 4 servants 1910 census of Philadelphia, PA: William C. HALL, age 58, born PA, parents born PA, a Lawyer Julia LAWLER, servant, age 30, born Ireland, parents born Ireland, a Private Family Servant I'm hoping to locate someone from this HALL Family so that these wonderful old photographs can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this HALL Family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
Didn't find anything on Ancestry or NEHGS for a Kirton that early. Maybe someone out there can tell you how early directories were available in Bristol Co, MA. The one time I was at the library in Fall River, I didn't need to look any earlier than 1870s, so I can't answer that question. You would need to give us at least her father's name, and any other details you know for a database search. >If any of you kind people out there could take a look in what > databases you may have to see if maybe the KIRTON'S where in Bristol co., it > would be greatly appreciated. My KIRTON family came to Mass. in 1837, but it's not known where they lived from 1837-1839, when they left Mass. for Ohio. My grtx3 grandmother Jane KIRTON was a young woman when she and her family lived in Mass., and in her obit. it say's "...until 1839, when they left their elegant home and beautiful surroundings and came to the forests of Ohio....". So I'm assuming they lived somewhere where there was a lot of wealth. There was another KIRTON family that settled in Mass. later, but they were from Ireland, whereas my family came from England. If any of you kind people out there could take a look in what databases you may have to see if maybe the KIRTON'S where in Bristol co., it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much! Hello everyone....we are new to the list......hoping someone out there can help....... In New Bedford from about 1926 to about 1940 there existed at 21 Lexington Street...a store and factory called: " The Almond Lancashire Style Pork Products." It was run by William & Mary Almond. Working there also were their four sons....William Jr, David J, Thomas and Walter. Around 1940 the store moved to 868 Kempton Street and was called Almond Quality Pork Store and Delicatessen. It was no longer in existence in 1945. I am hoping that someone remembers the store and possible the family that ran it. Would appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks for your help Tony & Joann ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

We are lucky in the NY area to have a few sites we can go to and find info on Birth, marriages, deaths etc. Like _www.taliangen.org_ (http://www.taliangen.org) . or _www.Germangenealogygroup.com_ (http://www.Germangenealogygroup.com) . Are there any sites with info on the Boston area or Suffolk area? Passenger list for Boston? Military records and draft card info? Thanks Jackie ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Jackie, The Massachusetts State Archives has a free births and death index for 1841-1910 (url http://www.sec.state.ma.us/vitalrecordssearch/VitalRecordsSearch.aspx) . This started as the same database as the subscription NEHGS MVR 1841-1910. Volunteers at the state and the NEHGS are busy correcting scanning problems with each of these, so they might not be exactly the same. The marriage records are in the works. This website http://www.rootsweb.com/~maessex/VitalRecords/ is a good one for records earlier than that. All of Essex is done and they are working on the other counties. The various Massachusetts County Rootsweb lists provide excellent support. So ask away!. Hopefully someone can help me with a brick wall I have had for years. Here is what I know of my ancestor: John Burke b. ca 1791, Ireland Married Abby Perry February 8, 1823 in New Bedford, Ma d. May 13, 1871, New Bedford, Ma John was a gardner by trade and worked for John Avery Parker, first millionaire and richest man in New Bedford, Ma. at the time John worked for him. John and his wife were the parents of the following: John Jr., Thomas, Elizabeth Farrington, Sarah A., Abby J., Baby Boy, William and Lucy. William Lucy and the baby boy all died young or at birth. Elizabeth Farrington Burke married Amos Foster Lovejoy. They were my 3rd great grandparents. I would love to know where in Ireland John came from or if someone can tell me if there was a newspaper that might have had an obituary at the time of his death in 1871. Thanks for any help. Wish to thank all who sent me information on Benjamin Hathaway and his wife Ida May (Olney) I have been chasing Ida May since last fall. A couple of more questions answered, and another name (Hathaway) to add to the tree.I can remember my Dad talking about a Hayhaway, but never knew the connection. One of these warm days I will see if I can find the gravestone, with my daughters help. Thanks again Eleanor (Olney) Souza ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
