One more thing, the Fall River High School, I think it is BMC Durfee High, has school year books going back a long way, online. It might be looking in there to for information. http://www.sailsinc.org/Durfee/ I'm not sure exactly where on this website, but I know it is there somewhere. The section labelled Fall River History also has great pictures of the city and so forth. Ancestry.com has a city directory for Fall River. I think it is for 1880 and 1890. I haven't renewed my membership this time around, so unfortunately, I can't have a look for you. Hi Gilly, I found a Fall River Directory for the years 1880 and 1882 at Google Books there are some Smiths listed on Columbia Street . I know it is earlier than you were looking for but who knows how long that family had been living there before 1908? The web site below will take you to the 1880 book and on the right you will be able to scroll down and see a link for the 1882 book. http://books.google.com/books?id=HeUCAAAAYAAJ&printsec=toc&dq=fall+river+directory&as_brr=1#PPA1,M1<http://books.google.com/books?id=HeUCAAAAYAAJ&printsec=toc&dq=fall+river+directory&as_brr=1#PPA1,M1> I found a few census records for Rishton for 1910 and 1900 in New Bedford and one for a Rishton 1910 in Fall River if you want me to send them to you in an email as attachments I will be more than glad to send them. Email me off list if you want them; sisfeather@msn.com<mailto:sisfeather@msn.com> Good Luck in your search, Marge
I find no Haneson St in New Bedford Directories ca. 1908. Are you sure it was 1 Haneson St.? In 1908 there was a John Rishton home at 24 Viall. In 1907 John T. Rishton home was at 10 Ashley. John is listed as a mule spinner. In 1909 there were 3: Gilbert Rishton home at 67 Dartmouth, John T Rishton business at 16 Ashley and Mrs Mary A. Rishton home at 24 Viall.

I checked Ancestry for Fall River directories within 10 years of 1910 and there are none on Ancestry. There is one for 1884 and one for 1873. New Bedford had none of the suggested names on Columbia in the 1908 directory.
I use Ancestry at my public library for free. It is worth checking to see if your local library offers it. I am looking for the parents of John Akin who married Huldah Forster abt 1789 as recorded in the Rochester Vital Records. I know that Huldah Forster was b. 23 Aug 1766 in Rochester to James and Mary Forster. I also know that two children were born: Deborah Taber Akin, b. 19 Jun 1803; and Warren Akin, b. 30 Oct 1804. The reason I am sending this to the Bristol County mailing list is that this John Akin was almost certainly born in Bristol County where the Akin family lived. Furthermore, I know that Deborah Akin m. Prince Bowles 16 Apr 1826 in Fairhaven, Bristol Co., MA and that they lived in Rochester where four children were born: William Ellis Bowles, b. 25 Jul 1827; Job Akin Bowles, b. 13 Mar 1831; Henry Prince Bowles, b. 31 Aug 1832; and Lydia Almy Bowles, b. 11 Nov 1839. I also know that the other child of John and Huldah Akin, Warren Akin, m. Joanna Bowles of Rochester abt 1828 in Rochester. They lived in Rochester and had 7 children: Maria Ellis Akin, b. 05 Aug 1829; Lydia Almy Akin, b. 4 Mar 1831; Mary B. Akin, b. abt. 1833; Warren Akin, Jr., b. abt 1835; Benjamin F. Akin, b. abt 1842; Lucy E. Akin, b. abt 1844; and Ella B. Akin, b. abt 1849. The problem is that John Akin was a very popular name during this time due to the fact that a Capt. John Akin, b. 1663 sired 16 children with two wives in Dartmouth and many of his male grandchildren were named John after him. It is possible that this John Akin is the son of Benjamin and Lydia Almy Akin of Dartmouth. They had a son named John, b. 12 Apr 1767 [DVR 1:17]; however, many believe that this son of Benjamin and Lydia was the John Akin that lived in Dutchess County and was the editor of the Poughkeepsie Journal. If anyone has any ideas on this matter, I would greatly appreciate your help. Robert Larry Akin - I go by Larry
Gil, Without a First name or a birth date it is very difficult. I looked at the 1910 Federal Census for Fall River. I did not see anybody by those names living on Columbia Street-Thomas,President Ave, and June Sts. Since I did not have a birth date or first name I could not verify. Are you sure they were living in Fall River. There were a lot of Hargreaves living in New Bedford in 1910. Hi: For better results suggest posting specific requests with names and dates to the list. Many of us are willing to do lookups from our resources although not researchers per se of your families . Once you get started more info will surface.i
