    3. Thanks Susan for the wonderful hint :) I'm guessing the name of the Road has obviously changed since than, so perhaps there might be an article or something on the name change? I'll give it a try and write them a letter. Barbara ********************* Barbara, you've helped so many. 2. Barbara Tourtillott
    3. Hello Listers! Does anyone know where Copper Mill Road in Taunton in the year 1869 is located? I found some of my ancestors living on Copper Mill Road in the 1869 Taunton City Directory. I've tried searching thru some maps in hopes of finding it but no luck so far. Any help locating the approximate location of this road, or even perhaps what name the road is now known as would be very helpful. 1869 Massachusetts, Bristol County, Taunton Directory: page 99 Reed, Stimpson, Farmer, House, Copper Mill Road. 1869 Massachusetts, Bristol County, Taunton Directory: page 122 Wilbur, William L., Farmer, house, Copper Mill Road In 1890 Census: Stimpson Reed & William L. Wilbur are both listed as living in a house on Norton Avenue near Dunbar. Perhaps Copper Mill is close by there? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me! 2. Carol, I found James Briggs in 1887, 1889, and 1890 listed as a farmer and living at 165 Summer Street in Brockton, but no other listings. I checked the address to see if others were living there and it gave me no hits. Even though this CD says it has directories through 1897, I have not found any of mine byond 1891 so maybe not ALL directories go that far. Sorry I couldn't find more for you. JoAN

    2. Yes, there is nothing better than being able to go to a record site in person and get your hands on the files. It beats the mail as in looking through records in person you will often find something else on the same page, that you wouldn't have known to ask about when writing.

Joan, my sister lives in CA and has to write for everything. She has told me this has occurred frequently to her. I know that I went to Blackstone MA and the record was in their library and then it turned out the actual event had occurred in Rhode Island so even though they could see the record in the index from the library of Blackstone MA they could not give me anything as far as a copy because it was the jurisdiction of Rhode Island . So if I had sent a letter I would have received nothing. Seeing it in the library index gave me a further hint. I don't think they would have (or might not have ) sent me the indication of the index listing because it was technically not their jurisdiction. IN Blackstone ithe library is in the bottom floor and the registrars office on the next floor up so I didn't lose a lot of time. as you say, live and learn??? Hopeful in the pursuit... Jean

    3. I've used the old Inquiry Service of NEHGS for Boston records & have had no problems & very quick turn around. The Society does also now have the INDEXES (to date) on all Boston B-M-D (located on the microfiche floor) & so double checks any requests. I've not used the NEW Inquiry Service which has slightly higher rates. Details about what's offered now can be reviewed at the Society's web site. 1. [MABRISTO] City Directories from Ancestry
    2. Hello Fellow Genealogists,] I am having fun with a new CD from Ancestry.com called City Directories: Massachusetts 1885-1897. Fall River is among 94 localities (but not Westport to my disappointment) that is on it. You can search for someone by age, business name and address, street address, occupation, and family member names. So far I have found some of my Shea ancestors in 1890, especially valuable since the census is not available for that year. It was recently offered for sale by Ancestry for about $14 if anyone is interested. I also had a recent bit of shock in that I had sent a check to the Mass Registry of Vital Statistics, Mt Vernon Street in Dorchester, asking for two death records ($11. each) . They could not find the records, and did not return the check, either. At the same time I sent a check to the Mass Archives for different records, also not found, but they returned my check. This is the first (of many queries I've sent by mail) time that my check was not returned when records were not located. Live and learn, I guess! Joan

    1. [MABRISTO] HENDRICKSON, Charles E. of Fall River & New Bedford
    2. Gail J Slade
    3. Thanks to a couple of wonderful people on this list we have the following: Vital records Dartmouth show: HENDRICKSON, Charles Edward, s. Charles and Clarista b. Oct 2., 1834 in D. >I believe Clarissa Chase Hendrickson was his mother and Charles >Hendrickson his father, married 3 Jun 1832 in Dartmouth. Marriage records Dartmouth have CHASE, Clarissa (Chase) [dup. Clarecy Chace] and Charles Henrecson [dup. and int. Henrickson, int. residents of D.], June 3, 1832 [dup. in D.] Are there any death records in Fall River, New Bedford or Dartmouth for the elder Charles Hendrickson (Henrecson, or any weird spelling thereof!)? It should be before 24 April 1856, as that is when Clarissa married James Durfee and he became stepfather to Charles Edward Hendrickson. Are there any Durfee family members out there who may have the lineage for the Hendricksons? Gail
