John Watters and his wife Catherine McMahon came from County Monaghan in Ireland between 1846 (birth of Edward) and 1850 (birth of Charles) to Fall River. Their children were: James, Mary, Elizabeth, Edward, Charles and Hugh. James had a son Charles, but I have no further information on that line; Mary had a daughter Mary Sullivan and a son William Sullivan; again no further information on that line. [Tracing Sullivans in Fall River is a monumental task.] I am descended from Elizabeth and have a complete accounting (I hope). Nearly complete for Charles and Hugh. I know of no Louise Watters. But then again there is lots I don't know! One detail, John and Catherine could say, were they living, that their grandson, John Doran, and their greatgrandson, Charles Watters, both won Congressional Medals of Honor, John in the Spanish American War, (Rev.) Charles in Vietnam. I recently came upon a Massachusetts marriage record that said a person was born in Fiskdale, MA. When I looked up the birth record, I saw that the person was born in Fall River. Is Fiskdale a section of Fall River? Jim McCarthy, researching McCarthy, Burns, Carpenter, Carr, Hurley, Toomey, Doran, and Watters.
Hello, I lost the email from the person who wrote about access to Fall River city directories. Does anyone have them for any time during the 1920s to 1950s? Are they available at a library in the city? And are there directories available for Westport? Joan McCarthy
To the man who wrote about the STEWARTs in Fall River: Hi, The post about the STEWART/WILSON family, Fall River, 1876+, appears to be the same family as my 3x-great-grandfather, William STEWART, of New Bedford. I am desc. from him and by his daughter, Margaret STEWART, who m. Clarence Malcolm CAMPBELL. William STEWART, Sr. m. Elizabeth COWAN. William Sr. is buried in a cemetery in Fall River. In his monument, he wrote that he was born in Renfrew, Scotland. However, when I hired a genealogist in Scotland, they found that, like your information, he was really born in Ireland. Below is a few generations of my STEWART line. Will the man who sent that post please write back to me? I've always wanted to find what happened to the siblings of my great-grandmother, Margaret STEWART. She died when I was little (about 1966, I think). She lived in Fairhaven for a while, and died in Dartmouth, MA. I barely remember her. My Mom remembers her well. And recently, my aunt found a photo of her. I still have to go and get the photo. Dear Ellie, How kind of you to offer to do lookups! Would you please look in your 1930 directory and see if there is a listing for Clara Harrington or Mary Ruddy? They lived on Reynolds Street in New Bedford in the 1920's. Thank you very much. Linda Harrington --- "E. Hello Listers, I haven't had any answers from anyone who may know of my Sheas, but one of them, Rita, married a D. Fortin. I lost track of this couple after the 1950s where I've found their signatures in a funeral guest book. Rita had a sister, Mary, who never married and probably died in the 1980s or 1990s. Any help would really be appreciated. There was a Lillian Shea from Tiverton, also in the funeral guest book. Joan McCarthy
Patty, I don't have the 1892 Fall River Directory, but I did find her in the 1889, 1890, and 1891 directories. In 1889 and 1890, she is listed as Jane McKeon, occupation: widow, address: boards 18 Birch. In 1891 she is listed as Jane McKeon, widow of Michael, at the same address. Hope this helps, Karen patty_27 wrote: > Hello Listers- > While visiting FR this past week (from Orlando), I was able to sneak in > a couple of hours at the library. > I was desperate to look up MCKEON in the 1892 FR City > Directory...unfortunately, was away being repaired... > Does anyone have info on a Jane (Storey) MCKEON in the 1892 > directory...I am banking on the listing > as being the date of her death in 1891. Hello Listers- While visiting FR this past week (from Orlando), I was able to sneak in a couple of hours at the library. I was desperate to look up MCKEON in the 1892 FR City Directory...unfortunately, was away being repaired... Does anyone have info on a Jane (Storey) MCKEON in the 1892 directory...I am banking on the listing as being the date of her death in 1891. (Jane MCKEON was my Gr Gr Great Grandmother). Thank you for your assistance. Patty Kenny [email protected] researching: SIMONETTI, LIVAN, DENADAL, KENNY, MCKEON, STOREY, MULLEN, LYNCH
Searching for the marriage record of Annie May (Kidd) Kenyon and Fred Fisher in Fall River. We do not know the exact date of marriage, but feel that it was sometime during the period of 1900-1905. It was a second marriage for Annie May. We know nothing about Fred Fisher, except that he died ca 1912.--Have not been able to obtain a death certificate at this point. We would love to be able to know more about him . If anyone with access to MA marriage and deaths can help us find any of these records we would be extremely grateful for the assistance. Hi Ellie, First thank you for your generous offer. Am looking for the last name LAGUE, any of them. Regards, Andree Florida
I am searching for clues as to parentage of one Solomon Caswell, born c. 1734 (calc. from death record). Married Aug 9 1764 at Norton MA Abigail Clark dau. of Seth Clark and Mary Wild of Norton. (Mary Wild first married to Jacob Leonard, then Seth Clark, both living Norton. Abigail Clark b. Norton Mar 28, 1747 per Norton VR). Solomon and Abigail Caswell relocated to Woodstock CT, as did Seth Clark and wife Mary. By 1786, Solomon and Abigail Caswell moved on to Belchertown MA-where Solomon died August 12, 1812. Been looking for this one for several years, and have checked Norton and surrounding VR, various Mass VR sources. Also the George Freeman Sanborn genealogy in Mayflower Decendents. There are several Norton Caswells where he might fit, but I cant find a trace of him until his marriage in 1764. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Want to clarify some things on lookups - Please give me first and last name(no all Smiths, etc.) Can also look up address to see who is living there. Fairhaven is also included in the directory. Ellie
I purchased a 1930 New Bedford MA directory from a bookstore and will gladly help co-listers find name/addresses of ancestors and this should help you when going through the 1930 census. I do not do census lookups. Only restriction I have is 2 names per person to allow everyone an opportunity to search for those elusive ancestors. Ellie
Doreen....YOU caught a typo for me... it should be OBIT (obituary) which was printed tn the N.B, Mercury (a newspaper) on Feb, 1822. Sorry about that.
