Marilyn, thank you. I have contacted the library. I have two ancestors who were Clerks of Court in Massachusetts in the early colonial days. It is a thrill to see their handwriting. The polution problem, at least in Denver, has improved considerably over the years, thank goodness. The state is utterly beautiful. Thanks again. Ron White In a message dated 5/21/2009 2:55:34 A.M. Mountain Daylight Time, New.Englander@verizon.net writes: Dear Ronald: The local library has cemetery and church records (not always complete/either records) for the Church on the Hill in Lenox (where my ancestors are buried. I'd start there. http://lenoxlib.org/ It's been so long that I've been there that I can't exactly tell you what are in the records. However, it is a LOVELY cemetery on top of this hill overlooking the valleys below. This library used to be the county courthouse and the first room in the front right was the office of the County Treasurer -- my ancestor! I had 3 generations of attys that worked in this building, so it means a lot to me. They have a lovely (but small collection) in a locked chest. The Berkshire Athenaeum in Pittsfield may have more information and greater access. The county records were recorded (some in my GG GF's handwriting), but in MF process they "cut off the parts on the binding of the book. booooo. Denver's great!!! I lived in Aspen/Snowmass for 8 years; then Boulder and Denver (before the air pollution nearly killed me). Good luck, Ronald. Well, Ron, if I were near there (I'm some 600 miles away), I'd be happy to search for their graves and take pictures. It is a beautiful church and a beautiful cemetery. Who were your ancestors that were clerks in Lenox? Mine were Joseph Tucker (early 1800s); Wm Tucker (abt 1830); his brother George Joseph Tucker (same time frame). George's son also played that role. George Henry Tucker (?) Were the librarians able to help you with the two sets of records that I know that they have??? Agreed -- CO is utterly beautiful!!!!! I had no problem in Aspen/Snowmass (skiied all the time; ran 6 miles 4-6 times/week), but when moved to the city, was coughing for hours a day and was quite ill. Had to move back to Maine to my parents, for them to care for me, as I thought I was dying. But, was well again w/in 3 weeks. I cried my eyes out all the way in the car from Denver to the NE line. I so hated to move! There is an unpublished history of Lenox by George Tucker. It was to be published and was in the final markup phase before he died. It is available from the library. (Or perhaps town hall) You may want to purchase a copy. I recall it was $15. Lots of good, historical information about the town. I miss CO. Intend to go to a "old geezers" event in Snowmass next month. Not that I'm a day older than 29 and counting, mind you! We had quite a time there in the early 80s. No fear, it's a wonder we all survived (well not all did). A wild place and a wild time.
