There are several mentions of the name Kittredge in the Pittsfield genealogy. One appears in my lineage: The last living "DAR" lived in Pittsfield, her name was Eliza Ann (Wilber) Prentiss, the wife of Horace Prentiss of Pittsfield/Dalton. Eliza Ann's mother's maiden name was Elizabeth Kittredge, the second wife of Joseph Wilber who was from Ancram New York. Elizabeth Kittredge married Joseph Wilber in 1823 in Chatham New York. He was 72 years old, and they proceeded to have six children. This amazing story includes the fact that Joe Wilber (born 23 Dec 1751 was a Sargent in the American Revolution and fought alongside George Washington. (all information supported by Gov. papers, DAR information, and newsprint.). The father of Elizabeth Kittredge,(grandfather of Eliza Ann) was George Kittredge, who served in the Colonial War. He was made prisoner of the Indians, (allies of the French Troops) and was in captivity for fourteen years! He was carried into the wilds of Canada, where because of his knowledge of Herb medicines, he was made a "medicine man" and revered by the tribe. His long captivity made him very melancholy. One summer day an Indian girl found him sadly morning his fate. The squaw aided his escape. Returning home he found his wife spinning at her wheel and his son of fourteen years a strapping lad, the sole care for his mother. A nice story.... Kittredge..
