I am tracing the PIER family.  A short narrative of the history of the Pier family, written many years ago states that the seven sons of Thomas PIER and Rachel TREMAINE "were all born in either Sheffield, Connecticut or, later, in Great Barrington, Berkshire County, Massachusetts where the family moved." I am a bit confused about the accuracy of this statement as to the location of Sheffield - whether it is/was in CT or has it always been in MA? The seven sons were born during the period 1752 - 1767. This "source" has been cited so many times by other researchers that it would seem that there must be some "validity" to Sheffield being located in Connecticut. Can anyone shed any light on this? thanks, Jim
