He was born to Jane/Jean McGavin aka Waddell or Weddell (who was Irish) and left Scotland possibly with a man named James Sullivan. She later returned to Scotland with her son Robert and I've not been able to find anything more of them from 1871. I've searched the Scottish records but found no death records for either of them. So I'm wondering if perhaps they returned to the States??? I dont have details of what ships the travelled on so if anyone could help with this too I would be very grateful.
