    3. Hi Listers, It has been some time since I posted to the list. I have some really good data now that proves the father of my John SMITH, was Jehiel SMITH. But as usual, it leaves me with one more quandry. I hope some one can add something to the questions at the end of this post. SMITH, Jehiel(5), Daniel(4), John(3) John(2), John(1), bapt. 3 June 1745 in Fairfield, CT, m. 24 Nov 1768 Pene DAVIS. Known children John(6), David, Ephraim Wheeler, Enos and George. Sons-in-law, Isaac ASSELTINE/ and Joseph HIND. John SMITH(6), b. 1769 in NY d. Mar. 1852 m. 1st Mindwell WADAMS 2nd Sophia (CHAPMAN) CROCKER (no children by second marriage) Children of John and Mindwell, all born in Hancock, Berkshire Co. Mass. William Sylvester Enos David Jehiel is known to have purchased property in Hancock in 1787, which he sold to his son John, in 1795. He was residing in Fairfield, VT at least from 1791 to 1795. He removed to Quebec and he died in Stanbridge, Missiquoi Co. Quebec in early 1804.. Question? Documents filed and witnessed in the Court of Kings, Montreal, indicate that Jehiel's wife was Elizabeth WHEELER. She claims the named children as her own----referring to John Smith, as "my son". Sooooo, what happened to Pene DAVIS? That bit of info comes from "Families of Old Fairfield, Conn" by D. L. Jacobus-----could Jacobus be in error? If Pene was John's mother and died perhaps in childbirth, would Elizabeth regard him as HER son? Any ideas would be most welcome. Thank you, Margaret in NV
