I am interested in a family of butchers from the same area. Ruether was the last name. Have you come across any information on them? There was August, Anton, Frederick and maybe a couple others. My great-great-uncle William A. Ripton was the Ripton half of the partnership, and he lived in North Adams with his family in 1900. Richard W. Ansell, William's then brother-in-law, was the Ansell half. In the 10 Sep 1900 "North Adams Transcript," Richard announced that the partnership had been dissolved and would now be known as R. W. Ansell. He also left within a few years. William Ripton had earlier started a family grocery business in Johnstown, NY, and I don't know if this store was a branch of that business or a whole new enterprise. I'm writing a family history and would appreciate any information anyone may have.
