    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Cassidy Lilly Hughes Hartwell Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.massachusetts.counties.berkshire/5522/mb.ashx Message Board Post: It has been a few years since I posted this information. I would be glad to hear from anyone with information about, or connections to, any part of it. Luke (1833-1910) and Catherine Lilly (1837-1900) Cassidy arrived in Adams from Ireland, as husband and wife, in 1855. They had eleven children, ten of whom lived to maturity. Three sons became police officers: Thomas on the NYPD (1895-1921); Edward on the Adams PD (1900-1936), of which he was chief for 16 years (1920-1936) and George on the Lyndhurst, N.J. force (1907-1907), killed in the line of duty. All married and had children. Luke Cassidy never married. He spent most of his adult life in Long Island City, N.Y., where he worked as a streetcar motorman and--after losing an eye in a fight--as a part supervisor. He went home to Adams to die in 1946, where he was tended by his maiden sisters. There were four Cassidy daughters who were spinsters--Catherine, Elizabeth, Delia and Sarah. I understand they lived together all their lives and operated various business in Adams up through the 1950s. The last of them died in the mid-1960s. The eldest daughter, Anna, married Thomas Hughes and moved to Butte, Mont. They had a son Thomas. The next daughter, Margaret, married Frank Hartwell from Schoharie County, N.Y., separated and then rejoined him late in life. They had a daughter Patricia Hartwell. Can anybody add scope or depth to this family history?
