I too am very much interested in the 1870 Pittsfield Directory to see if a Martin McMahon is listed. My great-grandfather was born in Ireland in 1848 and came to Pittsfield and worked in one of the woolen mills or textile mills there. My grandfather Owen McMahon was born in Pittsfield approximately 1873. Any help would be appreciated as I live in California and hard to get to these places right now and hitting brick walls. Does anyone know if Massachusetts vital records would have birth certificates available for 1873 or were they kept during this time.
