I got my great-great grandfathers pension file and more information than I ever dreamed of. His wife was trying to get his pension and they were denying it. There was a file about 2 inches thick legal size paper. The correspondence went on for a number of years while thegovernment investigated her and him and their marriage --letters from relatives and friends that knew them. Letters from people that did not like her. All the childrens birth records-which I still can't find anywhere else. Marriage records. All for the $37 dollars. As they say-you never know what you are going to come across in that file. Barbara Rossow ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Just to digress - my favorite example in my family is a veteran who married his 3rd wife approximately 10 days before he died at a very advanced age and his 3rd wife applied for a widow's pension. The investigator did his job, though. She didn't get a pension because it was ruled that the marriage was not legal. She had said that she split up with her last husband 10 years earlier and heard or assumed that he was dead. The investigator tracked him down in a neighboring county and essentially said, "No he isn't, I talked to him". -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Monday, April 16, 2007 8:24 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MABERKSH] pension records I got my great-great grandfathers pension file and more information than I ever dreamed of.
