Has anyone experience researching in Lenox especially the Town Clerk and library? Any recommendation of a place to stay in the area? Thanks Jack
Hi Jack, Your best bet for researching Lenox records is the Berkshire Athenaeum in Pittsfield. They have a wonderful local history department, much of it computer indexed. They have Massachusetts Vital Records both pre-1850 in town books, and post-1850 on microfilm, plus a wealth of information for the Berkshires and surrounding areas. Pittsfield is about 20 minutes from Lenox. Lenox would be a very expensive place to stay--try Pittsfield and you will get a better bargain. It's off-season now and you should be able to find something that won't cost you an arm and a leg. As a bonus attraction, just between Lenox and Pittsfield is the National Archives and Records Administration, with federal census records, immigration, Revolutionary War pension applications, etc. They have volunteers to help with computer and microfilm searches. Good luck in your research.
