Joan S. Yes, would you mind sending me what you have on your BONNEY family? If you can do that, let me know and I'll send my address. I see you also have a WILLIAM BONNEY ancestor. The name WILLIAM is common in my line and creates some considerable confusion. Thank you. Ron White In a message dated 5/21/2009 7:42:27 A.M. Mountain Daylight Time, jshea1@charter.net writes: Ron, my fathers grandfather moved from Hardwick Mass - William Bonney, to Williamstown Ma. My fathers father moved from Williamstown to Dalton where the family settled from then on. My fathers grandfather, sisters and brothers from Hardwick I have not traced yet. I do know that one aunt moved from Hardwick mass, married and died in Ware ma. I have seen the other spellings of the name Bonney, but our line seems to be just Bonney. There was no research on the name until i started it quite a few years ago. I do not continualy work on it, but do have my own pages. I would be happy to mail you what i have done to this point on my line. Check in Hardwick Mass for records of 1850 also, it is from there that I have to start working on the branch of other family members. Marilyn, just a quick note about those ancestors who were Town Clerks. I have information on the Bonney family from A Richard Bonney of Nedham Mass. I will look up the name Phebe and see if he has it listed. I think I misposted the below item. Ron White ____________________________________ From: RWhi3 To: MABERKSH-L-request@rootsweb.com Sent: 5/21/2009 3:36:35 P.M. Mountain Daylight Time Subj: BONNEY Family research First, let me thank, if I have not already done so, those who responded to my posting about PHEBE BONNEY(THOMPSON) of Lenox. Secondly, I do have a significant amount of material about the BONNEY family which descends from the THOMAS BONNEY of Sandwich, England who settled in Massachusetts. I also have access to a number of others who have researched this family. And there have been a number of books written about the family as well. I would be happy to do lookups. I have been stymied in locating a birth/Christening record for PHEBE BONNEY. The Compendium of American Genealogy contains what I think is reliable, accurate information about her since virtually all of what it says about her can be independently verified. However, The Compendium certainly has a number of detractors including the SAR, DAR, NEGHR, and others. Altho it seems fairly clear that she was born at one of the Bridgewater, MA, there is no record of her birth or the births of siblings there, or elsewhere for that matter. Again, my thanks. Well, Ron, if I were near there (I'm some 600 miles away), I'd be happy to search for their graves and take pictures. It is a beautiful church and a beautiful cemetery. Who were your ancestors that were clerks in Lenox? Mine were Joseph Tucker (early 1800s); Wm Tucker (abt 1830); his brother George Joseph Tucker (same time frame). George's son also played that role. George Henry Tucker (?) Were the librarians able to help you with the two sets of records that I know that they have??? Agreed -- CO is utterly beautiful!!!!! I had no problem in Aspen/Snowmass (skiied all the time; ran 6 miles 4-6 times/week), but when moved to the city, was coughing for hours a day and was quite ill. Had to move back to Maine to my parents, for them to care for me, as I thought I was dying. But, was well again w/in 3 weeks. I cried my eyes out all the way in the car from Denver to the NE line. I so hated to move! There is an unpublished history of Lenox by George Tucker. It was to be published and was in the final markup phase before he died. It is available from the library. (Or perhaps town hall) You may want to purchase a copy. I recall it was $15. Lots of good, historical information about the town. I miss CO. Intend to go to a "old geezers" event in Snowmass next month. Not that I'm a day older than 29 and counting, mind you! We had quite a time there in the early 80s. No fear, it's a wonder we all survived (well not all did). A wild place and a wild time. Ron, my fathers grandfather moved from Hardwick Mass - William Bonney, to Williamstown Ma. Just so you know, the cemetery/grave markings were taken perhaps 50 years ago??? and transcribed to the best of their abilities. Time has been hard on some of the older stones. Dear Ronald: The local library has cemetery and church records (not always complete/either records) for the Church on the Hill in Lenox (where my ancestors are buried. I'd start there. http://lenoxlib.org/ It's been so long that I've been there that I can't exactly tell you what are in the records. However, it is a LOVELY cemetery on top of this hill overlooking the valleys below. This library used to be the county courthouse and the first room in the front right was the office of the County Treasurer -- my ancestor! I had 3 generations of attys that worked in this building, so it means a lot to me. They have a lovely (but small collection) in a locked chest. The Berkshire Athenaeum in Pittsfield may have more information and greater access. The county records were recorded (some in my GG GF's handwriting), but in MF process they "cut off the parts on the binding of the book. booooo. Denver's great!!! I lived in Aspen/Snowmass for 8 years; then Boulder and Denver (before the air pollution nearly killed me). Good luck, Ronald. Thank you very much for your response below. The BONNEY name is also spelled BONNY, sometimes even BONY. I have seen an EDSON BONNEY listed from time to time, from Pittsfield. In fact, there seem to be a father and son EDSON that I've seen from there. I would very much appreciate anything more you can tell me about this name. I am a new member to the List and wonder if someone can help me. My ancestor was DAVID THOMPSON, born 1766, died Oct. 15, 1855 and buried at Church on the Hill Cemetery, Lenox, Berkshire County, Plot B. His wife was PHEBE (BONNEY) born 1768, died Mar. 24, 1842, also buried at Church on the Hill Cemetery. They were married at Easton, MA and came to Lenox between 1814 and 1842. I am trying to locate more information about PHEBE (BONNEY), particularly, her exact date and place of birth, names of her parents, names of her siblings. It is believe her parents lived at Bridgewater, MA. Can anyone tell me how I might get this information? Would cemetery or church burial records show more about PHEBE? Thank you.
