    2. Betty
    3. Hello, I just Googled for the name, "East Street Book," and find it mentioned on this list of publications: http://www.berkshire.net/~bfha/publications.html There are many "used-book-finding" web sites, and we're really not supposed to mention them on the Lists. But, if you have "no" connection to what is being sold, you can mention a few things: http://www.amazon.com/Street-Book-Lenox-Historical-Society/dp/B001OJEXFO http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?an=Lenox&sts=t&tn=East+Street+Book&x=0&y=0 Betty (near Lowell, MA) (relatively new Lists to consider joining: New England Societies, New England Memories, New England Railroads)

    1. Re: [MABERKSH] Microfilms and Massachusetts Research
    2. John & Jodi
    3. Janet, It may be easier, quicker and less expensive to contact the appropriate town clerks. The four western counties did not get anywhere near as much of their vital records published as the rest of the counties. There were a couple fellows, one was named Corbin, who went around and hand copied the vital records on index cards. NEHGS put these on CDs. However, the formatting leaves one heck of a lot to be desired. You can post a query to the list and there may be someone with the CD who can do a lookup for you. Getting back to the town clerks, it has been law in MA since way back in the 1600s for all town clerks to keep a record of all births, marriages and deaths. This usually included the intentions of marriage. The clerks have sent copies of the records to the State Archives since around 1841. Of course, the Archives has much more than those. I forget the cost but it is prohibitively expensive for all but large companies to buy all of the microfilms from the Archives to do even a single town. NEHGS has most of that. NEHGS has a lot of the microfilms and has transcribed them and put them in databases. Towns that do not appear in the "Tan Book" series are not merged but are in separate searchable databases. It's possible this might provide some information for you. It seemed that she struggled for happiness her whole life, and when she finally found it, God took her away way too soon! I know she watches over her daughter EVERYDAY! He was such a kind, generous, loving and good man with a heart as big as an ocean. I think about him often and all I have are wonderful memories, lessons I learned from him, and how I wish he were still with us today. He lived long enough to see the birth of my 2 daughters but how I wished he had lived long enough to also see the birth of my son and long enough for all 3 of them to know him and remember him the way I do. I think how honored I would have been to have him watching my son win a Dizzy Dean World Series this summer (he loved baseball). I can close my eyes and still see him, smell him, hear him, and touch him. He embodied what it meant to be an American, such a sense of patriotism and love for his country. He did not worry about material things, would rarely even buy a new piece of clothing, yet would take the time and spend the money to take his 7 grandchildren to the beach for a week or g! ive money to his ex-daughter in laws to help them out. He loved everyone equally (except perhaps for my grandmother who i know he loved just a little bit extra), showed no favorites, and truly demonstrated the meaning of family. So many of those values have gone by the wayside in our country so its nice to be able to think back to big family dinners where 4 to 5 generations came together in one place, broke bread, and enjoyed the fellowship of family. Grandpa, I just want you to know I often think of you, I miss you, and I love you and hope I can be something close to the man you were for our family! 3. Matt, I also have these people on my family tree. Most Lanesborough families are intertwined through marriages in Lanesboro and before coming to Lanesboro. I was only looking for direct family in the short time I had to be in Lanesboro a few years ago. I believe Lower and Center Cemetery are the same. The cemetery is two tiered. Many of the stones ar difficult to read and would take a long time to find them all. I have a book on Lanesborough and it lists Lower Cemetery, those are the graves that I found at Cemeter Cemetery. Those listed in the book were on the lower tier, my famly on the upper tier was not in the book. The book does not give the maiden names of the women but when I visited many of the maiden names or parent names were on the tombstones. I live in Missouri so I can't help with pictures. I have been to vist twice but each time have only had an hour or two to stay. The city hall said they do not have records very far back. No one seems to know what happened to them. Stephen and Elizabeth are also listed in the Lower Cemetery in the book I have. My Williams family has been left off in the Gen-Web site for Center Cemetery.
