    1. [MABERKSH] Berkshire militia at Fort Ticonderoga in May 1775
    2. Two requests: (1) Where might I find a roster of those from the Berkshire militia under Colonel John Brown who were with Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold at the taking of Fort Ticonderoga in May 1775? (2) Where might I find a roster of the members of the Berkshire militia and their enlistment dates, particularly those who enlisted prior to 1776? Ron McRoberts mcrob001@umn.edu

The Berkshire Eagle in Pittsfield has all the news for the Berkshire towns.I checked the archives on line and they only go back to Oct.1942. I have found many marriage, engagement notices and obits for my family. You could check with the Berkshire Athenaeum in Pittsfield they have a very good genealogy dept.with some very nice people. Well, I talked with Marie Ryan, the clerk there in Great Barrington, and she said that she checked from the year 1926 through 1948, and there is no record of the marriage recorded in that town. She did say that they could have filed their paperwork in any town in the state, not necessarily in the town that they were actually married in. She sugggested I call Sheffield, Mass. What are your suggestions regarding this, if any? Thanks, Lindy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. A mailing list for anyone with a genealogical and/or historical interest in the Connecticut River Valley which is the area where the migrants from the Massachusetts Bay Colony and Plymouth Colony settled as early as 1635. The towns of interest are 30 miles on both sides within the boundry of the Connecticut River which include the states of New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. Additional information can be found on the Welcome to the Connecticut River Valley website. To subscribe send "subscribe" to ct-river-valley-l-request@rootsweb.com (mail mode) or ct-river-valley-d-request@rootsweb.com (digest mode). Also the Goddard Library in Middletown CT, of course first stop should be the Pittsfield Lib. in Pittsfield, MA. I'd also check the tan books for Stockbridge and W. Stockbridge. And, there is a large old Cem. there X from the Stockbridge Town Hall. My John TUCKER who served in the Rev. War (probably in Albany) was buried there. Good luck! My TUCKER and his brother both married sisters (NEWTON and WORTHINGTON) that came from CT up the CT River, so .... it's certainly worth a post on that list (if it still exists). Author: bbffrrpp Surnames: Hutcheson, Hutchinson, Kidder Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.massachusetts.counties.berkshire/5727.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello. KIDDER is my main research of ~18 years, so I know a lot about them (most from the "KIDDER book"). The first family of 12 children were in Billerica, MA, and they mostly stayed in New England. That was the 1650 to 1700 timeframe. But, once 1700 came, they started leaving the Billerica and Chelmsford area and moving west to the Worcester, MA, area. And then one family went to the Killingly, CT, area. And, many of the children in those families headed north, a lot to the NH / VT border or the VT / NY border. And many from Billerica went up to "Maine." (the "Northern Territory of MA) I don't remember that any of those men or families went west to Berkshire County. There are 2 books which I recommend as reference books for the early days, "history of Billerica" and "history of Chelmsford." Especially the Billerica book has a large genealogy section which often mentions where the men and families migrated to when they left that town. Perhaps there are other "town history" books which offer the same information. Is there a large book about the history of Worcester, or, Amherst or Springfield? As with the KIDDER book, they might tell where the families migrated to from there. Or, come to think of it, is there a town-history for Pittsfield which might tell where the families came from when they settled there? A related ancestor was George HUTCHINSON of 1600's Charlestown, MA, and he had many descendants. Unfortunately, no one has ever written a book about them. Several researchers have a data base of his descendants and of his brother, Thomas, but I don't know if the information includes where the families migrated to. There was a "HUTCHINSON Farm" in what is now Winchester, MA, from the 1720's until the present (sort of). The 2 halves of the Farm were sold out of family hands in ~1910 and ~1960. I know basic information about those families, but not about their relatives. Betty (near Lowell, MA) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
