If you check the 1850 census for Otis, Berkshire county, MA you can see this family: Elijah Peck, born about 1818 in Rhode Island Lucy Peck, born about 1827 in MA Lucy J Peck, born About 1849 in MA I'd bet that this is the family - Lucy/Jennie probably switched her first and middle names (note that she is identified later as Jennie L Peck) and it would not be the first time that I've seen a parent's birthplace confused between RI and CT. Jennie L Broga was living in Chester, Hampden County, MA in 1910 with one of her sons. It is worth contacting the town clerk to see if you can get her death record. It's probably a long shot that her mother's maiden name is on it, given that Norman Miles had already died, but still worth it. I head into the Mass Archives in Boston periodically and could get it for you but I don't know when I will do that next. The best way I know of to investigate the native american theory is to try to get a picture of Jennie L Peck Broga. Max Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. http://www.magravestones.org/ There have been more photos for Berkshire, Essex and Middlesex counties. And if you want to submit, best results can be obtained by going to the "Preparing Photos Before Uploading" on home page. And if you find the name of cemetery is not listed at the time of submission, go to the bottom of the list and enter the name of cemetery. I will contact you to verify the name of cemetery if necessary. W. David Samuelsen, admin

I have your answer to your question and much more that I did. Please email me directly because I have census images on an email to you that are better emailed directly than through the list as well as the answer your original question. I have the family names and dates for Jane's family as far as I could go in the USA. I also have information on Frank's family if you need it that I got from the census records. The marriage record for parent names had such strange names, such as Eloise for both fathers' names, that I had to search a little further. The Eloise was actually someone not understanding the French pronunciation for Louis. I had to be the minister because he was the one that first documented the marriage. There are other interesting names that I will tell you about in the email. email me at gwendaelin@mindspring.com. Hello Brian: I have been following your compilations of the Berkshire Militia in all the issues of the Berkshire Genealogist since it started in the Winter issue of 2008. I was hoping to find my Eseck Brown from Cheshire, but no luck. Maybe he was a Quaker. Thank you for submitting these to the magazine. At Fort Ticonderoga, do they not have a list of all the militia participants in that battle?.... Also, have you checked the William Bradford Browne file at the Berkshire Athenaeum? This is a large file, full of his hand-written records, covering Berkshire County pre- and during the Revolutionary War (and afterwards). William B. Browne is a descendant of the prominent Brown family in that area. I believe he was the registrar of deeds, and devoted much of his time in the years 1910 - 1950s to early Brown family research. In addition, the National Archives Rev. War records has lists and lists of participants, on microfilm. Many from Berkshire County units. I looked through these years ago. Nancy Sicotte

ALL: Would be interested in ALL/ANY Militia lists from Berkshire Co. in the Mil War. My John Tucker (sigh, common name) is said to have served in the Rev. War, but I cannot find documentation. So would appreciate any repsonses to the list -- THX! John TUCKER (1742-1818) of Stockbridge, m. Thankful EGGLESTON (per of Sheffield MA?). John's sons settled in Lenox, MA. John and Thankful are buried in Stockbridge. Sons would not have been old enough to have fought in the Rev War, but brother William TUCKER would have (and may have left Stockbridge for Albany, TBD). Any thoughts appreciated, thx. ie., if you respond to Ron, please respond to the list. THX!!!
