I've never known any of the Sinopolis other than my father and uncle, and they know just as much as I do. Through some research, I found some type of funeral home announcement for a Joseph Frank Sinopoli who died in 2005, who I believe was my Great Grandfather, and his wife Rita Massacani is or was my Great Grandmother. With this, I was able to trace the Sinopolis back to my Great Great Great Grandparents, Guiseppe Sinopoli and Maria Polera who came from San Vito sullo Iónio, Calabria, Italy. As for the Massacanis, I found nothing. If anyone here has any information on these families, such as any family trees or photos, anything at all, I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you! Here is what I know: -He was born in 1910 and died in 1965 -He married my Great Grandmother, Mary Gosselin -They had 4 children: My 3 Great Uncles and my Grandmother -They lived in Pittsfield I've talked to my Grandmother about him, but she really doesn't know much more than I do about him. She told me his mother died when he was very young and his father sort of left him for his grandmother to raise. She threw around a couple names, Selena St. Jacques and Maryellen McKelliget (who was from Dingle, Ireland). She said those were his grandmothers, I'm not sure which belonged to his mother and father. I don't know if he had any siblings, or what happened to his father. I'm not even sure how he died. This is one of a few huge brick walls in my family tree and I'd appreciate ANY information anyone has. Thank you so much! At the time of writing they were confirmed as human, and male, but had not yet been tested to determine how long they had been there. For those who can't get the link here is a copy of the article Fire destroys historic Egremont Inn Berkshire Eagle Staff report Updated: 12/11/2009 02:18:42 PM EST Multiple departments responded to fight the fire at the Egremont Inn this morning. Here, the Pittsfield Fire Department s ladder truck pours water down onto the three-story building. The boom from a television truck is in the foreground. (Ben Garver) Friday, Dec. 11 EGREMONT -- An overnight fire destroyed an historic, 229-year-old inn in South Egremont. Built in 1780, The Egremont Inn on Sheffield Road was considered a town treasure. Its third floor collapsed and the first and second floors sustained heavy fire damage, according to Bruce Cumsky, a town selectman. More than 80 firefighters from nine companies around the Berkshires and New York state fought the fire. No one was injured. It was not immediately known what caused the fire. No one was staying at the inn, and the building was not staffed overnight, Cumsky said. The temperature -- in the low teens -- was the coldest this season. The inn was left frozen in ice, and the remaining firefighters on the scene also appeared cold and uncomfortable, according to an eyewitness at the scene. The fire was reported at 4:55 a.m., and the first responders arrived to find the inn fully engulfed in flames, according to Cumsky. The fire has been extinguished. "This is a great loss for our community and we are all saddened, not only for the loss of such a beautiful and historic structure, but for the many lives this loss will affect. Our hearts certainly go out to them," Cumsky said. Owners Robert and Marie Johnson bought the Egremont Inn last year. The inn was built by Francis Haere, a veteran of the American Revolution. The building served as a muster area and hospital during the Revolution and Civil War. It was also one mile from the last battle of Shays Rebellion, the 1780 clash between farmers and merchants that rattled the strength of the republic in the nation's early years and factored in the formation of the U.S. Constitution in 1787.
The historic Egremont Inn built in the 1700's was destroyed by fire at about 5am Friday morning.
