Hi! I want to express my appreciation to all of you who responded to my question regarding the nearest airport to Pittsfield MA. Using mapquest I found that Albany NY is 47 miles from Pittsfield and Hartford CT is 90 miles from Pittsfield. Checked with Northwest Airlines and they have some reasonable flights into Albany so I guess Albany is it. Again, thanks a lot and am looking forward to visiting Berkshire County. Maureen Preta

According to the info on Pittsfield I received from another individual, the airport in Pittsfield is commuter flights only, 25 passengers or less. So it's possible to get there by air, but I guess you'd still have to find out what commuter flights are available.
Peter: You might take a look at the SPRAGUE Database at: http://www.sprague-database.org/ It is a complex database with about 150,000 individuals at last count that I recall. And Dick Weber, who maintains the database is very helpful, although busy as well. If you cannot find any data there I suggest you contact him at his address given on the database site. There is an airport in Pittsfield - the Pittsfield Airport, in fact! - but I don't know what kind of air traffic it handles. Maybe your travel agent can find out.
David ROSS married Zerviah SPRAGUE about 1801 in Stamford, Bennington Co., Vermont. Who was David ROSS' father and mother. It seems it is not Samuel Ross, Jr. because I can find no evidence of David being his son. Does anyone know of Isaac ROSS? David Ross owned land in Florida, Berkshire Co, MA while Zerviah's family seemed to be in North Adams. Zerviah's elder half sister, Avis SPRAGUE, by Avis MITSHALL or MITCHALL married a man named Huit or Hewett and were present when Zerviah's father (Elijah Sprague)'s will was read, etc. in 1800. Anyone have anything on Avis and her husband Hewit or Huit Many thanks indeed Peter
The nearest airport to Berkshire County would be Bradley International in Windsor Locks, CT. Peggy J. Knox
Hi! I am new to the list & am researching the John BRODERICK family who came to Great Barrington from Watergrass Hill, County Cork, Ireland. His wife was Ellen Dorgan. I have many of his descendants, but am trying to find out who his & her parents were & where she came from in Ireland. They are the Great-Great Grandparents of my husband. Pat Lavato
Hi - Am planning on making a trip to Berkshire County but am not sure where the nearest airport is. Would appreciate any information. Regards, Maureen Preta - Florida
I took a look at my current map of Pittsfield, Mass. There are two large cemeteries, marked, neither of them Saints Rest. Three small cemeteries, marked, but not identified. I also would recommend you call the Pittsfield town clerk.
Hi Barbara, That's a new one on me <grin>. Have you tried calling the Library or the City Clerk? If you find it, please post to the list, I am interested too. Thank You, Margaret in NV
I am trying to find the address of the Saints Rest Cemetery in Pittsfield, MA. Is there anybody out there who can provide me with it. Anybody ever been there? Thank you kindly. Barbara from Lowell, MA
Any one out there with access to 1920 census records, for North Adams, MA? Could you look up 29 Meadow St. for Hynes Family. Think it would be in enumeration district 53. Any help would be appreciated. Joe Dunne
Does anyone have any WILNER connections or information? My gr-grandfather, Charles E. Wilner married Alice E. Edgerton, circa 1880. They had my grandfather, Newell Edgar Wilner, and others. Charles was born in Dalton. His wife, Alice, was born in Holyoke. I believe they eventually moved to Pittsfield. I am trying to make find out who Charles' parents were. I have found a Thomas Wilner in Dalton but have not yet confirmed any linkage. I have sent requests to the Mass. Archives but would also like to connect with others. Also would like to know when this line of Wilners came to America and where from. Thank you. Liz
Steve, According to the "Stockbridge Story" published in 1989, the Children's Chime Tower "was given by David Dudley Field, Jr. of New York and Stockbridge in 1878 as a memorial to 'my children and grandchildren, living and dead.'"..."The tower, designed by G.E. Harney of New York, consists of forty-five feet of bluestone masonry, sixteen feet square at the base, laid by Hascall Dodge of Pittsfield, and a wooden structure more than sixty-nine feet tall." There is more in the book about the bells, their ringing, etc. (The tower was renovated in 1973 by the Phillip Formel Co. of Lenox, Ma.) Dear Margaret, maybe I forgot to mention, that the only map is the one I got from the library in Pittsfield, and it was dated 1952, the roads that are on the map? are now nothing more than trails now. and you have to park your car at least 2 miles from the area that the cemetery was said to be in. you have to go in on foot now. sorry! Is there anyone in the Hancock, Pittsfield area of Berkshire Co. who may be able to shed a little light on the location of the following cemetery? Apparently, it has been abandonded and may be lost to the woods, but I sure would like to find it! It is the Smith Cemetery, which an old map shows was located about 250 yards up Brickhouse Mountain Road, which lies about 150 yards from the Pittsfield line. The cemetery is said to be in about 10 yards on the right. My 3rd ggrandparents, Sylvester SMITH, his wife Aurelia and her father Rufus SMALLEY are said to be interred there. Also a lot of other SMITHS, SWEETS and more. The burials took place from 1810 to mid-late 1800's. I am sure this is correct because other information I have indicate that Sylvester and his father built built a "brick" house that seemed to be the envy of the community. Any clues would be most appreciated, mostly how can one access this place? Margaret in NV John Need a gravestone photo taken in SOUTHERN Berkshire Co., MA? or Library research for Berkshire County?
