    3. Hi, If you are looking for information on Tyringham from a more historical point of view, there are two books available in Tyringham: Tyringham - a hinterland settlement by Eloise Myers Views of the Valley - Tyringham 1739-1989 The second is more a "picture book" but both give you a good perspective on a town that just too many of our ancestors seem to have passed through. I am researching the Stedman family and there are many branches of that family that have passed through Tyringham. The Stedmans also inter-married several times with the Heath family. Someone wrote recently about the split of Monterey from Tyringham. That happened about 1850 so any references to Monterey before 1850 should really be Tyringham. john. 3. Cissi: These are peripheral marriages into my main family lines so I do not have a lot of information on these Heaths and Markhams. There is a published and available Dowd/Doude/Doud genealogy from which I got this sketchy info. I do have lots of Race/Rees informaion - just let me know which specific Race/Reeses you are interested in. Also I am looking for an Andrew Race b. 1770 so if you happen to have anything on this old Andrew, I would be greatly interested. Sylvester Dowd b. 1803 in Tyringham m. Thetesa Heath b. Tyringham. (Thetesa also m. Hyland Dowd.) Sylvester and Thetesa had: Harriet L. b. Tyringham 1834 m. Loomis Jones in 1851 Wilbur S. Dowd b. Tyringham 1838 m. Sarah J. Heath Wilbur S. Dowd b. 1838 in Tyringham, son of Sylvester Dowd and Thetesa Heath m. in 1860 - Sarah J. Heath George Washington Race b. 2. Brenton L. Johnson
    3. Dear Listers, The 1830 Federal Census has a George Johnson household listed in Great Barrington, Berkshire County. Also listed is a Billings Johnson. The make-up of this George Johnson household leads me to believe he could be my ggggGF. Is there any way to find out who are the members of this household? Specifically is his wife named Permelia, and does he have a 14 year old son named John? Incidentally, George Johnson sells his son Billings land in Cortland, Cortland County, NY in 1854. Thank you. 3. Kathy- I'll be back in Windsor, MA, tomorrow. I'll check with the Dalton Historical folks and see what I can find. I know the Catholic Church began holding services about 1835, but that wouldn't have been your people's cup of tea probably- besides being too late. The earliest churches were most likely Congregationalist (let's hear it for the Puritans). 3. Hi Group, Looking for information on Isaac and Anna WILLIAMS. I know that Isaac had thirteen children and was living in Washington in 1783, but I don't know his parents or where he came from. Also, I have not been able to learn the name of his wife. Anna (--). I know that Isaac Williams was living in the town of Washington, Ma. in the year 1783. He was mentioned as being a surveyor of highways in a town meeting of March 10, 1783. The Berkshire Sun Newspaper states that Mrs. Anna Williams of the town of Washington, died on September 28, 1835. She was 81 years of age. She was the relict of Isaac Williams, of the town of Washington. This means that Anna was born about 1754. Any help greatly appreciated. 3. Jim: Berkshire County, MA was formed from Hampshire Co., MA in 1761. Hampshire Co., which was one of the original counties formed from the Massachusetts Bay Colony, remained as a county. It just lost some of its original land. Please click on the following RootsWeb URL for Berkshire Co., MA for much of the information that you are seeking: http://www.rootsweb.com/~maberksh/ Another very valuable source is the following: 'Remarkable Records of Rev. Gideon Bostwick, 1770-1793, Great Barrington, MA,' Transcribed and Indexed by Arthur C. M. Kelly, Kinship Publishing, Rhinebeck, NY, 1988. Rev. Bostwick, a graduate of Yale College, was a circuit-rider type minister of the St. James Episcopal Church of Great Barrington from 1770 to 1793 who roamed far and wide from Manchester, VT to northwest CT performing baptisms, marriages, and funerals. Nobletown [now Hillsdale], NY is only a few miles from Great Barrington, Egremont, and Sheffield, MA. And then, of course, the 'History of Great Barrington [Berkshire] Massachusetts 1676-1882' Charles J. Taylor, Published by the Town of Great Barrington, 1928, is probably the 'bible'. > Subject: Nobletown > Date: Sat, 16 Jun 2001 10:45:56 -0800 > From: "James W. He had a son George born 1739 Lebanon who m. abt 1775 prob. Lebanon Anna Brewster. They had a son Benjamin who married Mary or Polly Edson. I have no further info on him. It's possible we both have the same family, but different branches. Don't know if you can find anything in Lebanon, as I haven't found mine yet, but it might be worth trying. I have not been able to find anything on the births or deaths of either Solomon or Elizabeth.
