I know that the ancestor owned land in Hinsdale (census records), and he married in 1824 and either did nor did not marry a girl of Hinsdale. By 1825 they were burying children in Hinsdale who may or may not have been born there. I want to learn when the ancestor came to Hinsdale, learn who he bought the land from, and how he acquired it, and learn if the land was by any chance near that of the girl he may or may not have married. Have you tried www.familysearch.org? To to Library, then Catalog, then Place (County and State). Then choose the type of record you wish. If you find anything you would like to see, order at a local Mormon Family History Library. You can find a list of them at various locations at their website. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dora Smith" <tiggernut24@yahoo.com> To: <MABERKSH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 24, 2002 5:26 PM Subject: Re: how to find deed, tax records, 1824-6, Hinsdale > Specifically, all the addresses are for where to find > current records. Specifically, all the addresses are for where to find current records. I need to know where to go to find records from the beginning of the 19th century. That isn't usually the same office. I was there. There are addresses, no instructions and no where to go for what dates. Most counties have different places you go for records from different dates. I didn't even see one for tax records. Dora --- Carl & Marge Hommel <hommel@sundial.net> wrote: > Dora, > > Please go to the Berkshire County Gen Web Site, and > click on Hinsdale. My three times great grandmother, Julia (MOrgan) Raymond, died in 1893, probably in Hinsdale. She was probably Baptist or Congregationalist. Where would she have been buried, and how would I both learn what is on her gravestone, and find the burial records? Specifically how does one find probate records for Hinsdale, early to mid 19th century? I need to know if the alleged father of an ancestor was related to her. I am trying to learn whether the Julia Morgan who Amos Raymond married and subsequently lived in Hinsdale, was Julia Morgan the daughhter of Julius and Azubah Morgan of HInsdale who was close to the same age. Alternate version Julia Morgan who married Amos came from Wales with her father John. Marraige took place in 1824. According to the Hinsdale town vital records, and according to CD's of published vital records of Massachusetts towns, birth, death and marriage; Amos Raymond did not marry, anywhere, ever; No Julia Morgan married in 1824, and Julia Morgan the daughter of Julius Morgan of Hinsdale was actually born to that couple but did not marry and did not die. They must have been devout Christians indeed; obviously the daughter of Julius Morgan walked straight into Heaven like Elijah. I kind of get the idea there are problems with the VR's for Hinsdale pre-1840. Do any other sources of information on the marriage of this couple exist? Which cemteries in Hinsdale have grave records for 1820's in Hinsdale death record book, and how would I find the grave records? Or even more information about their gravestones? What cemeteries and churches were in Hinsdale in the 1820's, and who would now have their records?] I am especially interested in Congregationalist and Baptist churches, cemeteries whose grave records ARE in the NEHGS town births and deaths for Hinsdale, and churches that did not baptize infants. And any other churches whose birth, death and marraige records were not picked up in the published Hinsdale town records. Hi, listers -- I thought I had all of my questions answered, guess not! I was told that Berkshire County divorce records were held at the Bershire County Clerk of Courts in Pittsfield. Received a letter from them this morning saying they don't have divorce records as early as I'm looking for (abt 1890) unless it occured in Pittsfield. The divorce records I'm looking for occured in Adams, which apparently became North Adams in early 1881. Can someone tell me: are these early divorce records held with the Town Clerk at North Adams? Thank you, M'Lisa Whitney MLisa@FadedGenes.com
