    3. I just added some Veterians of the American Revolution if any one is interested, and changed the fetured photo. This time I put on one of Cheshire Lake, showing a small island on the other side. This was taken just about as the sun was going down, played out good on the clouds, hills and water. Looks better if you click on the photo for a little larger view. There are not as many veterins on the list as I would like, most are just one or two lines from papers when they died, but a couple have longer stories about where they served. At my Litchfield County AHGP site there are more than this for each town, but no other info to go along with them. I may have another page or two added before the end of the MO. Still working on the Hinsdale vital records, going slow with my slow typing. If someday ever gets hear I will add a photo page to each of these two county sites. 3. I found the Pittsfield School Census on microfiche at the library today and I found my grandfather, Eugene Lewis ROBERTS listed on the 1893, 1894, 1895 lists living on Churchill and 1900 list living on Park. I have two questions. One, how many grades/levels did the school go up to back then. Secondly, where were the West Park and Orchard schools located in Pittsfield? Deborah in Ft Worth, TX

    3. My ggrandfather was Edwin C. Simington born about 1856. He was probably born in Illinois but I believe his father and uncles were born in MA. His father would be James Simington born about 1825 or so. Is anyone researching the Simington name from this area? He is my brick wall! 3. Mimi, Thank you so much for such a nice message. Cobb Codding's father Samuel was in the Revolution, so perhaps had something to do with the migration. I look forward to hearing from you. 1. Codding, Cobb, Willis, Tucker surnames
    2. Carol Bauby
    3. Hello fellow Berkshire county researchers, Although not new to genealogy, I am new to this list and thought I would post my surnames in hopes someone else has ties. Cobb Codding came to Washington, MA from Taunton prior to the 1800 census, and was b. Taunton c. 1768, son of Samuel and Codding and Mercy Cobb, hence the name Cobb Codding. Pretty different! He marr. Phylena Willis (1768-1854), also of Taunton, in prob T. 1795, and died in Washington in 1845. I have pictures of their gravestones in West Branch Cemetery, now part of October Mtn State Forest. We hiked to the cemetery May 2001 to finally find the stones, intact but lying on the ground. Their son, Hosea is my ancestor, and I descend thru his dau who married William Tucker. Hosea and family eventually moved to Lee, and dau and family eventually to Naugatuck, CT after his death. I guess I am rambling but if anyone has any ties to this family, please reply. I am also wondering why this family moved from Taunton to Washington. I know that many in T. were from the Mass. Bay Colony, as were folks in Berkshire county. Any ideas??? Regards, Carol Bauby Harwinton, CT

    1. Webster's of Sheffield, Berkshire, Mass.
    2. Sam Lenaeus
    3. Looking for a Webster family that was in Sheffield, Berkshire County, Mass around 1771-1778. I have a Elizabeth (Eliz) Webster b.1771/8 Sheffield Berkshire Co., Mass.d.1849 Frankstown, Blair, PA; married 1797 to Oliver Westover Jr. b.1775 Sheffield, Berkshire County, Mass d.9/1855 PA She is said to be a direct descendent of Gov. John Webster the 5th Gov. of CT. A desendent of Gov. John Webster, Daniel Webster (1730CT-1813NY) is in Sheffield prior to this but has relocated to NY by the time period of Elizabeth's birth. He has 2 sons Daniel (1758) & Isaac Vosburg Webster (1759) who are born early enough to have fathered Elizabeth but record of their marriages come after her birth period. I am not sure either of them stayed in Sheffield either. On the 1790 census there are no Webster's listed in Sheffield Township. There are a few listed in Teringham, Sandisfield, and Nethlehem Townships of Berkshire COunty, Mass. I live in Georgia and do not have access to any Mass or Berkshire County Records. Help is a must. Thanks in advance for taking the time to look at this and for looking up anythiing you can find. Samuel "Sam" Savage Lenaeus slenaeus@westga.edu

    1. Sylvander Johnson, North Adams
    2. T. Miscia
    3. I'm looking for information on Sylvander Johnson of North Adams, who apparently ran the Johnson Manufacturing Co. in that town. He was born on February 2, 1815 in Stafford, Tolland, CT. He died on May 11, 1882 in New York City. He was married to Eliza Ann Bigelow, daughter of Asa Edwin Bigelow and Elizabeth Browning. Specifically, I'm looking for information about his parentage. I know his mother was Statira Spelman, but I've been getting conflicting reports on his father's name, whether it was Jonathan, John or Samuel. Thanks a lot! Travis
