HI, I have an old photo which was taken, I believe, on 10th October 1896 On the front is printed: Lyon 44 Holden Street North Adams MASS Would anyone be in a position to tell me what this place is now, and if possible provide a picture of the street and the building as it stands today? This is not high priroty as it will not provide any real genealogy info, its just that I like to add what I call 'leaves to the twigs on the end of the branches' i.e. making the basic structure look a little prettier. Many Thanks Penny Blake

Its not hugely important, just something I`d like to know. I have a picture of my Grandfather and his sister taken when they were 2 and 5 respectively. The photo is believed to have been taken on 10th October 1896. The name on the front of the photo is: Lyon 44 Holden Street North Adams Mass I was just wondering if it was still there if not what is. I have done some searching and the closest I can find is a restaurant at either 24 or 34 holden street. Short of phoning them up I am out of ideas. As I said bfore, its not hugely important as it won`t do much for my family tree, just wish to satisfy my curiosity. Us English are obsessed with the weather and what shops used to be. Liz, Thank you. The webmaster sends me spreadsheets for various town's entries. It doesn't work for the larger towns because Excel has size limitations. What I'm usually doing is going through all the entries for a small town and fixing them. This actually helps the larger towns too. With a small town, I can easily figure out what the specific problem is. If it is a column shift, I get the index page that's involved and fix everything on it. This fixes the larger towns' entries as well. I'm trying to do the littlest towns first. Usually all their entries for a year fit on one, maybe two pages. I started the Pittsfield marriages because of a specific request and the fact that I haven't fixed many of Berkshire County entries. Now, I'm not familiar with Berkshire County other than it is supposed to be beautiful. If any of the Berkshire listers have a small town in Massachusetts that they would like to help me fix, email me off-list. I won't be ready to start for awhile because I'm finishing up some others, but wouldn't mind having a list handy. What I do is request a town's entries on spreadsheet, go through correcting the entries, and then send someone the spreadsheet and have them go through the images to verify if all the names listed for a page are there and what names listed aren't there. This last check finds the name and town column shifts and some digitizing errors that aren't obvious looking just looking at the entries. Whomever is helping does have to have access already to the NEHGS on-line databases. I'm a paid subscriber just like everyone else. If you have been checking an entry and it continues to show "image not available" you can send me an email off-list and I will check to see if the image is on the server. About 6 of 10 are available, although there are folks that have totally struck out on their request. I do ask that you limit your request to no more than five entries, you put NEHGS and your name in the subject line, you don't send an attachment (I won't open the email), and you are willing to check the image to verify all the entries for the page if it is available. Please include the name, town, year, event (BMD), volume, and page number in your request. I won't do research for folks that don't have a subscription. There are any number of folks that are willing to do lookups, but only a few of us that actually repair the database. I do ask that folks who do lookups for others put the name, town, year, event, volume and page number if the likely entry shows "image not available". I watch this and all the Massachusetts county lists for just that kind of comment and will check if the image is available. Best of luck and I hope Spring is coming your way. Greetings to the Berkshire List, I went through the Pittsfield marriages between 1880 and 1900 that are listed on the NEHGS' MVR 1841-1910 on-line database, but haven't had the images connected to the entry. Although all entries for a few pages are connected, most only have the first entry for Pittsfield done. If you have someone you are looking for and they are listed for one of these pages, just call up the volume and page number without the name and you can view the image by clicking on the one entry that is linked. The remaining entries will be connected as time permits. There are a bit over 100 Pittsfield marriage entries for this time frame that require correction and I'll be working on those also. There a still a number of pages where no image is available. I don't have any information on when those images will be finished and loaded on the server. I am working on the Myers/Maher family that was originally from Winooski-Burlington Vt. based on information obtained there I believe that they may have been married in Pittsfield. Perhaps Isaac III (presumably born two years earlier in 1774) is really being confused (hardly unheard of) with his great uncle Samuel, Sr's son Isaac (b. 1774), because records already indicate that Samuel, Sr. had four children: Samuel, Jr. (1769), Sarah (1771), Isaac (1774), and Jemima. Also, Samuel, Sr's Isaac (1774) was already married to Elizabeth Dobbins in 1796, in NJ, before moving to Arcadia. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
