Hi All, Does anyone know anything about the Allen Farm that was in Pittsfield around 1890ish or Dalton Road. I can see from Google maps that Dalton road is still there, does anyone know if they are still the original houses from the late 1800's or was the area updated to have newer homes? Thanks, Terri ____________________________________________________________________________________ 8:00? 8:25? 8:40? Find a flick in no time with the Yahoo! Gideons restaurnat is at 36 Holden. Having read you posting very quickly this morning, I thought you were looking for a residence on Holden Street. There are not any there now, 44 would proably have been in what is the main street now. Anyway, I drove around a bit and found that there is a North Holden Street which is a very narrow winding extremely steep road, which now leads to the hospital. Along both sides are older homes and some in bad repair. THere were several Victorian style, very narrow houses on a steep hill. No front yard (garden) .One had a sign that said 1895. I decided to check the public library and found a couple of interesting things about Holden street and copied them. If you would like them I will have to send them to you by US post. So if interested, write me with you address, at, [email protected] Also have you tried to search google for Massachusettes Photographers? I know a book was written about Mass. photographers from the past and I have also found info on line about some. So try putting Lyon Photographer, or Massachusetts photographers or historical etc etc etc in your search engine. Google seems to be best for results. I am looking for any members of the Rote family. They settled pre 1850 in the Sheffield area. Leonard Rote and family are listed on the Sheffield 1850 census and continued thru the years till his death in 1902. Son Silas and his family also lived in Sheffield on ROTE HILL. I am interested in any information about the descendents of the family. I am descended from Peter Rote's branch. He was a brother of Leonard. Does Rote Hill still exist as a road?
Marion Reeves I am interested in your French Connection; Christopher and daughter Margaret b Jan 18, 1775 and their Stockbridge connection. My French connection starts with Benoni 1779-1862. born in Taunton, Massachustts. The Stockbridge connection is a William Warren French who died there in 1911; would you know if he is buried in the South Cemetery in Stockbridge? I would like to continue with the Benoni siblings whose father I think was James French. Since Taunton and Attlelboro are so close there could be a connection. Can you make a connection? John E. If you google the North Adams town hall and get a phone number they have a cemetery office in the town hall. In the office they have file cards on everyone buried in North Adams. Make sure that if you find one person to have them give you the names of everyone on each file card. They might have extra people you were not aware of. This is what happened to me. Another idea is to google the Catholic Churches in North Adams and then get in touch with them. There may be several and one of them maybe more Irish. I would try this one first. I would also google the cemeteries. I am sure there is a Catholic one but your first bet is to call the cemetery office in the NA town hall. Hi Berkshire Listers, I wanted to mention something, so folks who might notice a Benway query or have an interest in North Adams are aware of a potential problem. On the NEHGS MVR 1841-1910 on-line database, there is an entry for Albert J Benway, 1897 vol 469 pg 86. He is listed as North Brookfield, but someone checking each North Brookfield image said he isn't there. That particular page is a North Adams page, unfortunately the image isn't on the server. I suspect that that is a North Adams marriage. The clerks who typed the original index seemed to have a problem with towns starting with North, South, East, and West and on occasion seemingly picked a town that started with North, for example, out of the hat and put it down in place of the real town that started with North. I've probably seen a half-dozen where this has happened. I have no idea when those images will come on-line or even if I would notice they had come on-line. Just asking for folks who care about either Benways or North Adams to be aware of this. Thanks. Sue Richart NEHGS Volunteer
