Surnames: Eldredge/Eldridge Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0EB.2ACE/417 Message Board Post: I need information on my great great grandfather John Eldredge who according to his marriage entry in the Lyme CT vital records married my grandmother Mary Ann Chadwick in January of 1838 in Lyme. All it says is that he is from Chatham. I checked the 1840 Lyme CT Census and he is there with a male child under the age of 5, a woman lives with him in the household in the :25-30" year age brackett and he is in the "30-40" year age bracket. This couple divorced in 1851 but there is no age mentioned in that document either. There were two children by this marriage. One son named John Eldredge born about 1839, and one daughter named Eliza Jane Eldredge born about 1841. I find them in the 1850 census of Lyme living with an Uncle. I cannot find a death record for this grandfather because I have no accurate date of birth. Chatham MA cannot help either as that is all I have. John was supposed to have been a mariner. I have checked Ships manifest and still come up with road blocks. I t! hink that perhaps John descends from Bearse Eldredge and Rebecca Wixon but cannot prove it. Their son John Eldredge fits the time frame. Anyone out there who can give me anymore suggestions? Sincerely, Carol in MN
