    1. Re: Cornelius Fisher (1808) Mass
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/0EB.2ACE/465.1 Message Board Post: The Sandwich VR (Kardell & Lovell, NEHGS, 1996) list a death on April 13, 1864 for a Cornelius Fisher (page 1147). His age at death is given as 56 y, 9m, 9d. If this is accurate I believe the date for his birth calculates as 4 July 1807. If you are using the census as a source for the birth year of 1808, bear in mind that the 1860 census was taken in June and for that year the age was as of the census day. As your Cornelius was in Sandwich in 1860 this seems likely to be the right one, but you'd have to prove it. The parents given for this Cornelius are David and Sylvia. David is said to be born in Sandwich and Sylvia in Falmouth, however in another record a Peter Fisher, apparently a sibling of Cornelius, has Sylvia as born in Sandwich. Both are death records for children of Sylvia, so the informant in each case may have had little actual knowledge. There is a death listed for Sylvia (p. 1559) June 12, 1857 age 81 and for a David May 1 1850 age 76. (page 1558) David is also listed in the deaths recorded by the Methodist Society of Sandwich (p. 1496) . I tried the NEHGS MA VR to 1910 database and did not find David or Sylvia. The Falmouth VR did not have their marriage. The Sandwich VR has nothing on the birth of David or anything about who Sylvia was. There was a Peter, son of David and Sylvia in the Sandwich VR [Who, if the VR is to be believed, died Nov 18 1880 and then again Nov 18 1881.] and when I checked the NEHGS database I found the mother's name was listed as Sophia, not Sylvia. I have seen in other instances that the Sandwich record keepers had problems with the name Zylphia as well, sometimes making it Sylvia, etc. David and Sylvia are buried at the Forestdale Cemetery in Sandwich, assuming they are the right David and Sylvia. I'm beginning to think you might have as good luck going there and asking them as you would looking at the VR.
