I have seen it used several times as a first name in families from the New England area such as Mass & Rhode Island. I was wondering where it came from. It seems to show up in Quaker families and appears to be mainly used as a females name. I have also seen it spelled, Robe, Roba, Rhobee. I know there is a surname spelled Roby, Robey, Robie, from England. The first Roby surname came over to America in 1638. I'm just not sure where this first name came from or is it a variation of the spelling of the surname Roby moved forward. If anyone has any ideas on this please email me at: roby@erols.com
