I descend from Nathaniel BAKER, 27 January 1641/42, son of Francis and Isabel, and have always been confused about his spouse/spouses as I've read conflicting information. I've seen his wife given by other researchers as Desire GRAY, dau of Edward, which I question. According to Mayflower Families Silver Book on Chilton and More, this Desire GRAY was b. Plymouth 6 Nov 1651, m. Nathaniel SOUTHWORTH 10 Jan 1671/2. She d. Plymouth 4 Dec 1690, ae 39, referred to in her death record as Desire, wife of Nathaniel SOUTHWORTH. She had children with N. SOUTHWORTH born 1674 to 1688/89. So in my opinion this particular Desire couldn't have been a wife of Nathaniel Baker. I have also seen his wife as Mary, possibly PIERCE. Torrey's New England Marriages: Nathaniel BAKER, b. 1642, d. 1691, married Mary (PIERCE?) who died in 1691, birth of first child 1670, lived in Yarmouth. From Library of Cape Cod History and Genealogy, "The BAKER Family of Yarmouth, Descendants of Francis," No. 73, CW Swift Publisher, Yarmouthport, MA, 1912: Nathaniel was born 27 March 1642. He married _____. He and his wife died Dec. 1691. Children: Samuel, Nathaniel, Silas. I haven't seen children Bethya and Sara attached to him. His estate settlement mentions son Samuel by name and children are referred to as his "oldest son" and "other two sons." No daughters mentioned. In Anderson's The Great Migration Begins...Vol 3, the sketch of Abraham PIERCE says daughter Mary was born about 1645 and married Nathaniel BAKER about 1670. Marriage based on evidence that their son Samuel in YVR was cited as "4 years old the 29th of October 1674." So seems to me that Nathaniel BAKER, son of Francis, married Mary PIERCE. But where did the Desire GRAY come from and am I missing something?!
