Seems like an odd way to identify Nathaniel. My source for Desire Gray is old, undocumented and most likely wrong. Unless I'm reading it wrong, Anderson is saying that Nathaniel, son of Francis, m. Mary Pierce, dau of Abraham and Rebecca. The Yarmouth VRs do not list the mother of Nathaniel's children. I'm thinking the reference to Samuel Baker's birth is to show an approximate year of marriage since he was their oldest child. But it doesn't prove Mary Pierce m. Nathaniel Baker. She definitely married a Baker as the division of her father's estate names her as Mary Baker.
