He was the son of Daniel Doane, grandson of Deacon Daniel Doane, and great-grandson of Deacon John Doane. Elijah and wife Catherine bore six children: Ann, Mary, Rebecca, Joanna, Titus, and Catherine. There is another Elijah Doane, born 1817, in Pennsylvania, but according to my lineage, this sector of Doane's never left the Pennsylvania area, therefore not owning property on Cape Cod. Can you determine an age of your home? I would think his store was used for salt, as the Doane's were mariners and fishing was the number one commodity.
